Excitement ahead of a much-anticipated return sounds pretty normal. But what happens when potshots slip in between? Will the exhilaration still taste the same? Check out the frenzy that followed a report supposedly about Ryan Garcia. After last year’s Devin Haney fight and the drama that ensued, the young fighter was already suffering a loss of face. He may be looking forward to the May comeback against Rolando Romero.

Despite the absence of any world title or, for that matter, exquisite boxing skills, Garcia still commands a mammoth social media following. To most fans, perhaps it was time to put the past behind and move on. That’s why when the news of the ‘Rolly’ fight came, many rejoiced. A win could potentially pave the way for a rematch against Haney and thereby set the record straight. Coupled with his former missteps, instances like this – if true – often raise obvious questions about Garcia’s credibility.

Ryan Garcia: The coins fall flat

Unearthing a number of scams, especially those surrounding cryptocurrency, Stephen Findeisen, or more commonly ‘Coffeezilla,’ has made a name for himself. “In case you missed it,” the online journalist messaged, adding, “Boxer Ryan Garcia launches a memecoin, “40% of ALL the $RYAN supply will go to CHARITY”, Token immediately tanks 90%+, and Ryan deletes his post.

For those who don’t know, a memecoin is a cryptocurrency often based on internet culture or hype rather than real utility. ‘Coffeezilla’s post featured a screenshot of Garcia’s tweet. “The ONLY Official Ryan Meme is LIVE! Fighting to shape a stronger, braver, and more independent AMERICAN youth,” it read.

For the record, it’s hard to say whether Garcia’s post was genuine or the result of a hack. Taking up Garcia’s tweet where he displayed a fight poster featuring him and ‘Rolly’ Romero and mentioned some ‘charity work,’ ‘Coffeezilla’ didn’t miss a parting shot: “I might’ve found the “CHARITY” that $RYAN coin is supporting 😂.”

From dejection to being nonplussed, fans dove in, sharing their thoughts on the report. Let’s check what a few of them had to say.

Why would anyone even consider?

This fan sounded frustrated. They said, “All these loser “celebrities” constantly trying to steal from their fans.” Maybe the fact that, rather than genuinely supporting a good project, Ryan Garcia trying to cash in on his fanbase sounded quite appalling to them.

Not surprisingly, this fan brought up the past. “Not the first time, is it? Let’s be honest,” they said. As a result of Garcia’s controversial involvement with PEDs, his reputation took a severe hit from multiple angles. As a result, anything he does is often equated with the incident.

The next user expressed genuine confusion and skepticism about the crypto world. “Maybe I’m stupid, but who is actually buying these?” They asked. Adding further, they mentioned, “I don’t get how these coins are still scamming in the millions.” Perhaps they felt that most coins were deceptive or fraudulent. “I’m being genuine in that I just don’t understand how you can be in the crypto space and not just assume that every coin is a scam,” the user said. It’s high time people were more cautious and aware of the scams that run rampant in the industry.

This follower sounded more direct. “It’s called wasted talent,” they said. Instead of getting involved in something that seems self-serving or exploitative, Garcia could have done more with his skills and public profile.

But one fan sounded quite skeptical. They said, “Most likely hacked.” Again, a cyber attack or unauthorized access that could lead to negative outcomes is not so uncommon, right? The reason for the memecoin’s crash, disappearing funds, or other problems might be due to a hack rather than mismanagement or fraud.

Going by the developments, it might appear as if infamy and ‘KingRy’ have grown fond of each other. However, it could be too early to reach any conclusion.

Getting back to the interesting prospect of boxing, many fans would rather look forward to Garcia’s upcoming fight against Romero. The two have known each other and sparred. Both need a redemption. Given their aggressive fighting style, fans could expect a full-on battle, which could go either way.

What about you? Do you think Ryan Garcia will emerge as the year’s biggest star?
