In a video that surfaced on the internet, we see Garcia smashing pads with trainer Eddie Reynoso. The superstar boxer is training with his teammate and self-proclaimed face of boxing, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. In the ring, we see Ryan Garcia training to land power punches to the body. He is throwing fast, powerful, and precise shots combined with vicious uppercuts.
Why should Ryan Garcia target the body against Luke Campbell?
Luke Campbell’s only two career defeats have come against Vasyl Lomachenko and Jorge Linares. And if you watch those two fights again, you can see that both Lomachenko and Linares hurt Campbell with the body shots. Lomachenko almost had Campbell knocked out in the last moments of the fifth round. Whereas, Linares constantly uses body shots to open up the space for the straight right hand to the chin.
Garcia and his coaches have clearly been doing their homework. With Garcia having the slight height advantage and Campbell having a reach advantage, attacking the body would be a good strategy to use. The former Olympic gold medalist will be vary of this.
However, if executed well, Garcia may be in with a chance to hurt him, especially in the middle rounds.
