Ryan Garcia called out Gervonta Davis after knocking out Luke Campbell in January 2021. It appeared to be a perfect matchup of that time. Both men in their prime with alluring knockout power could have offered a lightweight slugfest to the display. The fight is still stored for the future but could have happened by now.
Well, Gervonta Davis had also verbally agreed to face ‘KingRy’. Garcia grabbed the Interim WBC lightweight strap with his win against Campbell and attended Mike Tyson‘s HotBoxin’ podcast, where he vowed to beat Gervonta Davis in a possible fight.
However, the matchup fell off and Garcia pitched himself into several more matchups, and ultimately, all of it went in vain. Having fought no one since Luke Campbell, Garcia has now revealed the reason for avoiding a collision with Gervonta Davis.

Garcia has recently parted ways with trainer Eddy Reynoso and has joined hands with Joe Cusumano for his returning scrap against Emmanuel Tagoe on April 9. He cannot afford to lose his unbeaten streak at this point. Although victory may not fetch him an immediate title shot, the win over Tagoe will clearly clarify his road towards the gold.
