Several reports indicate that Ryan Garcia received approximately $50 million from the fight against Devin Haney, surpassing his earnings from the bout with Gervonta Davis. This fight marked Garcia’s biggest payday, during which he placed a $2 million wage on himself and won. However, he subsequently lost a significant amount of money as part of punitive actions related to his one-year suspension. But before he reached that stage, Garcia reportedly forfeited $1.5 million to Devin Haney due to a lost bet over making weight.
Despite these setbacks, Ryan Garcia appears to have regained his footing, at least money-wise. Now, it seems he won nearly $500,000 through a successful wager on UFC’s middleweight champion Dricus Du Plessis, who defended his title against Israel Adesanya at UFC 305.

Garcia took to X to express his excitement, stating, “I F**KING TOLD YOU STOP DOUBTING ME. LETS GOOO 500k 🫡🫡🫡.” It seems he had been closely following the championship bout that took place in Perth, Australia. Yesterday he said, “I bet 500k on South Africa.” Subsequently, he announced his love and admiration for South Africa, Du Plessis’ country of origin.

It was a round-by-round follow-up from Ryan Garcia. Sounding thrilled, he tweeted that Dricus Du Plessis, on whom he had placed the bet, had seemingly won the opening round. He gave another round to ‘Stillknocks’. However, it looked like he found Israel Adesanya recovering in the following round. Considering how tightly contested the round was, he felt that Adesanya had done enough to win it.
But despite Du Plessis’ latest success, Ryan Garcia appears skeptical about the South African’s chances against Alex Pereira. The Adesanya match is Dricus Du Plessis’ first title defense. Following his win over Robert Whittaker in the title eliminator last year, he defeated Sean Strickland in January this year to become the UFC’s new middleweight champion.

It was early in February that, after much ups and downs, both Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney had agreed to a title clash. Ahead of the bout, Garcia entered a bet with Haney. He agreed to pay the light welterweight champion $500,000 for every pound he exceeded the weight limit. When the final weigh-in happened, while ‘The Dream’ made the grades with 140 pounds, ‘KingRy’ tipped the scales at 143.2 pounds. So for the additional three pounds, he gave Haney, $1.5 million. The move also resulted in him forfeiting the titles in case he won.
Some two months later, on account of his failure to clear drug tests for banned substances, the New York Athletic Commission handed over a one-year suspension. It also resulted in losing a substantial amount in fines. According to the well-known boxing insider Rick Glaser, including the betting amount he lost to Haney, the whole bargain must have cost the Californian an amount to the tune of $2.7 million.
