Ryan Garcia is itching to get back into the ring. He was devastated when the NYSAC delivered its 1-year suspension verdict after he was caught consuming the banned substance ostarine ahead of the Devin Haney fight. However, he has understood now that it is no use crying over spilled milk. Wasting no time, ‘KingRy’ is canvassing potential opponents for his return in April next year after his ban officially ends. A new person added to his hit list is the WBO super-lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez.
“Ryan Garcia vs Teofimo Lopez For my return in April Let’s make it happen teo,” Garcia wrote on X recently. However, it remains to be seen if Lopez is keen on the challenge. Earlier, in an interview, Lopez had expressed his desire to move up to welterweight and fight for belts in that division. “147 is something that I plan on moving toward, probably even in this next upcoming match,” Lopez had stated in an earlier media interview. Meanwhile, Garcia also wants to fight at 147 going forward as he struggles to make weight for the 140 lbs division. However, being a non-belt holder in that division might ultimately lead to Lopez giving Garcia the snub.
In the meantime, it seems like Ryan Garcia wants to work more on bettering his already terrifying knockout power. A clip is circulating on the internet of the UFC light-heavyweight champion Alex Pereira, knocking his opponents out cold during his amateur boxing years with his devastating punches. The Brazilian champ’s freakish knockout power has been woven into UFC folklore. Since making his debut in the light-heavyweight division last year, Pereira has won three of his four fights by knockouts. Witnessing a young Alex Pereira flatling amateur boxers wearing headgear, Garcia was in awe and expressed his desire to train with him on X.

“People don’t understand how hard it is to knock out people cold in the amateurs. I would love to train with Alex Let’s make it happen,” the Victorville native wrote. There have been requests from several prominent names in the boxing community for Alex Pereira to make the switch to boxing from MMA.

Apart from Anthony Joshua wanting ‘Poatan’ to make his boxing debut soon, Jake Paul has also called him out for a boxing match after his win over Mike Perry in July this year. On the other hand, Lopez isn’t the only one in Garcia’s crosshairs as he called out another opponent quite recently.
Ryan Garcia vs. Jose Valenzuela at catchweight?
What’s your perspective on:
Is Ryan Garcia's collaboration with UFC champ Alex Pereira a game-changer for his boxing comeback?
Have an interesting take?
Less than a week ago, Garcia had an impromptu video chat on Instagram with the current WBA super lightweight champion Jose Valenzuela. They verbally agreed to fight each other at 145 lbs catchweight once Ryan Garcia’s suspension officially ends.
“I think that we’re both very marketable fighters…..Two underdogs come and fight each other. I think that would be a big event,” Garcia told Valenzuela. Meanwhile, the Sinaloa-born fighter laid down the only condition for him to accept the bout — “I will do 145.”

However, there seems to be a bit of an issue. Valenzuela had stated earlier that he would want a rematch with Pitbull Cruz next year after taking the WBA title away from him this August. “I would love to fight Cruz again. Won that fight. There was no doubt I won that fight. Cruz is a tough guy. He and his dad felt that they got robbed,” Valenzuela stated in an interview with Ring Magazine.

As things stand, Garcia needs to wait till the latter half of next year to fight Valenzuela. Or, it might even be that Jose Valenzuela fights Gervonta Davis after his rematch with Isaac Cruz.
Safe to say that Ryan Garcia’s upcoming opponent could be anybody. In the meantime, will Alex Pereira accept Garcia’s invitation for a training session? Let us know in the comment section below.
