The Ryan GarciaDevin Haney rematch might be one of the most intriguing fights ever, particularly not because of the result of their first match but rather the aftermath that followed. On April 20, 2024, Garcia defeated ‘The Dream’ unanimously after knocking him down thrice. However, as ‘KingRy’ failed subsequent drug tests for samples collected before and after the fight, it resulted in the fight being declared a no-contest and Ryan Garcia facing a year-long ban from boxing.

The fallout from that fight is still ongoing as Haney soon after filed a lawsuit against the Victorville native. The lawsuit was a surprise for fans who were hoping things would be settled inside the ring. As if the animosity still had room, Garcia filed a $7.5 million countersuit against Haney in December. Despite the strained relationship between the duo, rumors of a potential rematch still persist among fans. During the recent Ring Magazine boxing awards in London, rumors started to float around about a possible rematch being discussed in 2025. But is there any truth to these rumors? Let’s hear it from the fighters themselves.

Devin Haney comes clean on the lawsuit

In a recent conversation with IFL TV, Devin Haney talked about his potential return to boxing and his journey to the UK and also came clean on the lawsuit against Ryan Garcia. “It was a lawsuit. That’s all I got to say about it,” claimed Haney while asked about the update on the suit.

The 31-0 boxer further added that he wants to fight Ryan Garcia again and wants to clean the blemish on his record. “My man thing is, as me being a fighter, I want to get back in the ring. I wanna fight him again and I wanna win. That’s how I want justice to be done,” declared Haney.

While ‘The Dream’ claims that he wants to get things sorted out in the ring, his actions state otherwise. However, it is evident, that as long as this legal battle is in progress, the rematch won’t happen. At least, that is what Ryan Garcia thinks, who dropped a particular task for Devin Haney if the latter wants a rematch.

Ryan Garcia puts out an ultimatum

In a conversation with ‘Seconds Out’ on the sidelines of the awards ceremony, the Victorville native spoke on the possibility of a rematch with Devin Haney. ‘KingRy’ stated that he would be interested in a rematch and that it might be the only way back for Haney. “The only way he’s going to get any respect is to fight me again and try to do better. I would be down to do a rematch but a lot of things need to play out the way I need them to play out,” declared Garcia before issuing a five-word ultimatum to ‘The Dream.’ According to Garcia, Haney “needs to drop the lawsuit,” otherwise he can say goodbye to the rematch forever.

“To me, I thought that was a weak move by him. And now he wants to backtrack and say that’s how he’s going to get it back but before he was saying different. But I’m ready to fight him. I already fought him and beat him.” stated Garcia in a confident tone.

Ryan Garcia is still serving his ban, which will be lifted in late April. The 27-year-old planned to take part in two exhibition bouts ahead of his return but dropped the plan after an untimely wrist injury. This is a huge opportunity for Devin Haney if he moves quickly. He can avenge his loss against a rusty Garcia and considering how both parties are ready for the rematch, the negotiations won’t be that difficult.

However, being swift is the key and at this point, Haney is anything but that. If this legal battle extends further, we might never get this rematch. Which is truly a shame. What do you think about the Devin Haney-Ryan Garcia rematch? Will it even happen at this point? Let us know your thoughts down below.
