Ryan Garcia is set to face Javier Fortuna on July 16, 2022. This fight might be a stepping stone on his way to getting a fight against Gervonta Davis. Garcia is a talented boxer and could soon be one of the stars of the future. But this doesn’t stop him from having critics in the form of boxing fans. Recently, he opened up about the disrespect he has to face as a fighter.

Garcia was in an interview with Sports Illustrated. In conversation, he mentioned that he seldom got respect despite putting in the work.

He said, “I’ve had to deal with a lot of disrespect toward me as a fighter. Even though I put in the work.”

Moreover, Garcia mentioned it was because he was handsome. He said, “Honestly, I think it’s just because I’m handsome. I think they’re envious. It’s kind of cocky to say but f*** it, it’s true.”

He added people hate the fact he is handsome. We can’t be sure if this argument holds any water, but the boxer seems adamant about his opinion on why he garners criticism.

Ryan Garcia was last seen in the ring on April 9, 2022. He showed a stellar performance against Emmanuel Tagoe at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, making him the winner by decision.

Notably, Fortuna is a former two-time world champion.

It was announced that Garcia and Fortuna have signed a deal for a 135-pound fight on July 16. The duo was initially scheduled to battle it out in July 2021. However, Garcia had to back out to focus on his mental health.

The fight will take place at the Crypto.com arena in Los Angeles.

A potential showdown with Gervonta Davis

The talks about a potential Garcia vs Gervonta Davis showdown have been doing the rounds for a while. Moreover, Garcia was also present ringside for Davis’ fight against Rolando Romero.

In fact, he even took to Twitter to call out Davis after his victory against Romero. He mentioned that ‘Tank’ Davis was ‘screaming’ for Garcia to be his next opponent.

Garcia mentioned he was ready to face Davis in December after he finishes his fight with Fortuna.
