Ryan Garcia pitched himself against several names after conquering Luke Campbell in January 2021. The list began with Gervonta Davis, who seemed an appropriate matchup for ‘King Ry’ at that time. However, Garcia shook everyone by announcing a potential bout against Manny Pacquiao that came out of nowhere.

He had expressed his desire to face ‘Pac-Man’ in an interaction with Mike Tyson on the HotBoxin’ podcast. Following that, the matchup seemed viable, as Garcia advertised it all over the Internet. Nevertheless, it didn’t come to fruition, and it’s been over a year since we have seen Ryan Garcia fight. Well, the youngster recently connected with CompuBoxTv to address several things, including why his scrap against Manny Pacquiao fell off.

Ryan Garcia said, “I face-timed Manny Pacquiao. He wanted to do, everyone wanted to do it. It fell through because the guy that wanted to fund it was just a lunatic.”

“He was literally like, I think he was losing it. I am not gonna say names, but yeah, he had a lot of crazy ideas. But he was just going off the rails. Whatever he was saying, it was a lie. So, it wasn’t gonna get funded the way I thought it was.”

While the entire lightweight division was in motion in 2021, Garcia remained sidelined. He dealt with mental health and then suffered an arm injury, ending all hopes of resurgence in the bygone year. On returning to the flow, he tried to bag a scrap against Isaac Cruz.

However, Garcia couldn’t bag a top-tier name and will step through the ropes against Emmanuel Tagoe on April 9. That said, he cannot afford to lose his unbeaten record at any cost.

Will we ever see Ryan Garcia face Manny Pacquiao?

It’s bizarre to picture two boxers from different eras locking horns. Besides, Garcia had claimed to square off against the octuple world champion in a pro-bout and not an exhibition. However, Manny Pacquiao retired in August 2021 after losing to WBA 147 lbs champion Yordenis Ugas. There’s no way we can expect him to fight anytime soon.

Garcia shall focus on his lightweight run, as all of his contemporaries have become world champions. While he is yet to hold that tag, a lot of tasks are left on his side and Pacquiao doesn’t really make sense for his career at this point.
