Amid the increasing uncertainty about his next fight, Ryan Garcia is already floating imagination clouds for a future fight. The American boxer is struggling to find an opponent, despite his popularity. After flirting with Devin Haney, Rolando Romero, and Isaac Cruz, he has now set his eyes on Naoya Inoue.
After an impressive start to his new journey at 140 pounds, ‘King Ry’ is already planning his next fight. However, either he has left the negotiation table early, or he has been out of sync with his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, about whom he should face. It seems Garcia wants a name outside his division, if possible, in the future, against the undisputed junior featherweight champion Naoya Inoue.

Ryan Garcia, in a conversation with ESNEWS, revealed his desire to put on a show against Inoue on the latter’s home soil. He believes the Japanese champion can become a multiple-weight champion and can move up to 140 and meet him in the square circle.
The California native said, “‘Cause I think Inoue can become a multiple-weight world champion. So I’m thinking, what if one day we fight at 140? I’m talking about future and we do it in Japan. [It] will be huge. Huge. Mark my words. If it somehow plays that way, I think that fight will be one of the biggest PPV fights of all time. Remember, I just said that.”
Notably, Inoue, at 26-0, began his second undisputed championship reign in less than 54 weeks. He handed Marlon Tapales a KO defeat and clinched the undisputed crown at 122 pounds on December 26. He will face Luis Nery next on May 6. So, it might be a while before he jumps to 140, if possible at all. Meanwhile, Garcia might have to go back to the man he shunned.
A fight with Devin Haney back on the table?
After Isaac Cruz and ‘Rolly’ Romero booked a date for their clash, Garcia is left stranded. The 25-year-old might have to turn back to Devin Haney, and Eddie Hearn has expressed his eagerness to make the fight happen.

“I spoke to Ryan last night just briefly, just a message. And I said timing is good because I’m seeing Devin and Bill in Vegas next week. And that’s the fight to make,” Hearn declared. With Teofimo Lopez out of the frame and Gervonta Davis not expressing his interest in the rematch, Haney is the only big name remaining.
