Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney joined hands in an unlikely alliance when they knocked on the doors of Oscar De La Hoya‘s Golden Boy Promotions. The reason? Both fighters who put on a show this April have yet to receive their complete payouts. The complaints caused an uproar and even evoked a scathing response from ‘Golden Boy’ himself. But it seems the two super lightweight boxers might have misapprehended the situation.

Garcia, 25, turned heads when he asked for “payment” from GBP and DAZN for his stellar performance, where he dropped ‘The Dream’ three times to the canvas and bagged an unlikely win via a majority decision. After which, Haney, 25, would also join the bandwagon. De La Hoya then hit back at the two and, in a statement, clarified that both fighters had received their contractual money. The American promoter then specified that, as with PPV events, payments were made later as revenue came in over time. He added, “Perhaps Ryan and Devin should pay more attention to their contracts than their social media feeds.”

As the confusion persisted about revenue sharing, Rick Glaser spelled out the scenario to the fans. He mentioned that both ‘KingRy’ and Haney had already banked their guaranteed purse, as stipulated in the contract. The boxing insider pointed out that the money the two fighters were referring to was their respective PPV proceeds. Glaser then laid bare a provision in their contracts that clearly defined the payment timeline. The Buffalo native reassured the fans that both fighters would be paid the amount they were contractually entitled to.

“I’m told contractually #GBP/#DAZN has a 60-90 day clause to pay the fighters their respective PPV proceeds. So far, only 49 days have lapsed since April 20. Fighters really need to understand exactly what they signed. Believe this, Ryan Garcia & Devin Haney will be paid in stipulation & in compliance with their bout agreements they both signed. Thank you,” Glaser wrote.

But the amount of money due to Garcia, at 25-1, and Haney, at 31-1, is still unknown. Eddie Hearn admitted that the fight racked up 972k PPV buys and a $9.2 million gate. Meanwhile, Garcia had previously claimed that the total payout of the night exceeded $50 million excluding the pay-per-view numbers. However, it seems that both fighters’ camps too are unaware of the exact numbers they are now owed.

Bill Haney blasts GBP amid non-payment issue revolving Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia fight

Bill Haney vented out his frustration to BoxingScene as he accused De La Hoya of playing “keep-away with the ball.” The manager declared his unwillingness to work with GBP and instead emphasized his desire to work directly with the networks. In addition, he demanded answers and numbers for the fight.

“Ryan and Devin have been asking where the pay-per-view money is… They haven’t shown us the 30- or 45-day reports,” the Haney family lynchpin revealed. He then raised similar complaints as his son: non-payment of PPV money and the GBP not honoring the agreement. Lastly, Haney also shed light on their lack of awareness about the numbers and the timeline of payment. But if Glaser’s comments paint the real picture, then both camps will need to wait a bit longer to collect their revenue share.
