No matter how hard he tries, Ryan Garcia can never stay away from controversies. Currently serving a year-long ban because of positive doping test results during the Devin Haney fight earlier this year, KingRy is now gearing up for his in-ring return, albeit in an exhibition setup. The 26-year-old will square off against 29-year-old Japanese kickboxing star Rukiya Anpo on the December 30 Rizin event in Tokyo.

However, Oscar De La Hoya, Garcia’s promoter, has expressed doubts over the exhibition match’s legitimacy. The Golden Boy was not present at the official press conference for the event in LA on Tuesday. In a recent Instagram clip, he expressed his anger highlighting that Ryan Garcia and his team tried to negotiate a deal behind his back. He then threatened to sue to boxer. Things escalated significantly as KingRy replied back to De La Hoya in his own style.

On Thursday, De La Hoya uploaded his Clap Back Thursday segment to Instagram, where he targeted Ryan Garcia for his participation in the Rizin event. The former six-division world champion stated, “I’m not sure if you saw the press conference for the upcoming exhibition fight between Ryan Garcia and Rukiya Anpo. It took place in LA on Tuesday, and I was not there because Ryan’s team thought they could negotiate this deal behind my back.”

He further explained that he has “the global rights to Ryan Garcia’s fight,” and without him, the fight can’t happen. De La Hoya then threatened to sue Ryan Garcia if he did not abide by their existing contract. “When you sign a contract, it means it’s legally binding. This means you must abide by the terms or risk getting sued. Which is what we unfortunately have to do if Golden Boy is not included in this fight,” stated Oscar De La Hoya.

De La Hoya then targeted everyone who criticized his stance and believed he was blocking the fight. Hitting back at the criticism, he explained that he actually “wants Ryan to make money.” He wants the fight to happen, on condition that Garcia honors his contract and includes Golden Boy Promotions in the negotiation. De La Hoya later revealed in his Instagram story that due to mass reporting, he had to take down the video from his feed.

With the Devin Haney lawsuit already hanging over his head, it might not be the best idea for Garcia to make his own promotion angry. However, that is not KingRy’s style as he clapped back immediately at his own promoter and left a scathing comment mocking the 1992 Olympic Gold Medalist.

In the comment section of De La Hoya’s Instagram clip, the Victorville native wrote a long message hitting back at him for his comments. The 26-year-old began, “I think I need to drop a clap back as wellllll 👏👏👏👏,” stating that he can’t sit silent when accusations are flung towards him. He noted that he got permission from De La Hoya and “You said it’s was okay while I was at your offices with no objections 👏👏👏👏.”

The 26-year-old boxer also roped in Golden Boy president Eric Gomez, revealing that the latter agreed to the fight. “Also Eric is on record saying he is glad that the exhibition is happening and you guys had full knowledge,” explained Ryan Garcia, hitting back at Oscar De La Hoya.

Garcia then shifted his focus to De La Hoya not being present at the press conference and stated, “Even was invited to the eventttttttt,” and not coming was De La Hoya’s own choice. The 26-year-old then mocked his promoter and stated, “All this was written in Oscar’s clap back voice 😭😭😭😭.” He made fun of the Clap Back Thursday, something that he adored as well.
