Featherweight boxer Ruben Villa had desired to cement himself among the top-rated elites of the division by winning the world title against Emanuel Navarrete on October 9. However, he suffered a crushing defeat via decision, as Navarrete outpointed him thoroughly in the fight.
Although both the boxers went the distance, Villa couldn’t offer much from his side. Instead, he stood on the wrong side of a beat down. After a battle of 12 rounds, the judges awarded Navarrete the win and the title by the leads of 114-112, 114-112, and 115-111.
Thus, Villa’s plan of making a statement has to be put on hold, as he couldn’t do it in his latest fight. So, he might have to suffer more criticism along his way, especially after he had promised to win the world title.

Ruben Villa made a promise but he couldn’t deliver
Before the fight, ‘RV4‘ appeared calm and composed. While many didn’t consider him to be an elite featherweight, he wanted to win the fight to shut his critics.
In a pre-fight press conference (Boxing Scene), the featherweight boxer said, “I wanna see the best Ruben Villa. I haven’t even seen him yet. So, I feel like Navarrete’s gonna bring him out of me and I’m just excited to perform and, like I said, show you guys what I got. I feel like I’ve been slept on and maybe a lot of people think I don’t belong here. But I’m gonna show everyone I’m an elite 126[-pound] fighter. And yeah, I’m coming to win and I’m coming to fight.”
The fight night turned out to be absolutely different for him. Nevertheless, ‘RV4’will look to bounce back stronger than ever. The defeat was the first of his pro career, and all it takes is one win to get back in the title ride.

This was just a mere setback in his glittery career. Boasting a pro record of 18 wins and one loss, he is still a lethal featherweight. All he needs to do is put it on display when he returns inside the squared circle.
