WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis has long ruled over the lightweight division, crowned the best in the division. However, there seems to be a new sheriff in town threatening to ruin it all for the Baltimore native. And boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. thinks the new guy can be a big problem for Davis.

So, the question is, who is Roy talking about? On Friday night, Keyshawn Davis defeated Denys Berinchyk to secure the latter’s WBO lightweight belt via fourth-round knockout. His dominant performance seems to have convinced ‘Captain Hook’ that when Gervonta Davis collides with Keyshawn Davis eventually, it would be hard to predict who would win.

While appearing in an interview with Fight Hype after the fight Friday night, the reporter pressed him about the 25-year-old’s performance in the ring. “Keyshawn is definitely showing to be exactly who we thought he was,” a confident Jones said. “I didn’t think Berinchyk had a lot to offer him because he really didn’t have much power.”

This led the reporter to probe Jones further, questioning whether ‘The Businessman’ could cause problems for ‘Tank’ Davis if they fought. “Not just Tank, he presents a problem for everybody,” Jones noted boldly. The former unified light heavyweight champion went as far as to claim that he could tell Keyshawn’s potential just by looking at his amateur resume.

“He was a problem already. You just have to know boxing to understand what he really was,” he concluded. Meanwhile, someone else has shared their shocking prediction for the potential fight.

Terence Crawford’s trainer says Keyshawn Davis would beat Gervonta Davis

Brian ‘Bomac’ McIntyre, the long-time trainer of Terence Crawford and Keyshawn Davis, believes the Tokyo Olympics Silver medalist has what it takes to defeat Gervonta Davis. Even before Keyshawn defeated Denys Berinchyk, Bomac was already looking ahead to bigger challenges. “I think Keyshawn would stop him in the later rounds because of Gervonta’s style of fighting,” Bomac told The Ring.

Is Keyshawn Davis the real deal, or is Gervonta Davis still the king of lightweight?

“It can only carry him so far until you run into the right person.” While Tank is considered one of boxing’s biggest stars, Bomac isn’t convinced he’s the most skilled lightweight. He criticized Gervonta Davis’ style, claiming it lacks versatility. “He just got that one style that he doesn’t change. Keyshawn got a whole toolbox,” he added.

Before any potential clash, Gervonta must first get past Lamont Roach on March 1. And with Keyshawn having secured the WBO title, a unification bout between them seems like a reality.

That said, it appears despite Gervonta Davis’ status as the best, experts believe Keyshawn Davis has a really good chance of beating the Baltimore native. But that’s their prediction, what’s yours? Do you think Keyshawn Davis really has what it takes?
