Roy Jones Jr Reacts to Robert Whittaker’s Ring Walk Homage at UFC 298

Robert Whittaker emerged victorious after a thrilling battle against Paulo Costa at UFC 298, reigniting his title hopes in the middleweight division. Nicknamed “The Reaper,” Whittaker entered the Octagon seeking redemption after a loss to Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 290. He declared before the fight, “My goal isn’t just to win; it’s to hurt Costa.“

While a knockout eluded him, Whittaker delivered a stunning performance, overcoming some tense moments. This win marks a crucial turning point for the former champion as he finally managed to bounce back after his previous loss. Jones Jr. joins the chorus: Whittaker’s future bright after dominant win

Robert Whittaker has fought against Israel Adesanya two times as of now. In his second fight against “Izzy” at UFC 271 in 2022, he walked out to the music of  ‘Can’t Be Touched’ by none other than the boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. He even used it once again as he walked out towards the Octagon along with his entourage this time, showing his love for the boxing legend. So as the fight against Costa ended in Whittaker’s favor, Jones Jr. took the chance to appreciate the UFC fighter for the gesture.

He took to X and stated, “Let’s go @robwhittakermma. Always representing on the ring walk!!! #UFC298 @ufc #cantbetouched”.

Stand-up exchanges dominated the middleweight clash, with both fighters showcasing their striking prowess. Costa landed a spectacular spinning kick at the end of the first round, momentarily wobbling Whittaker. However, the Australian fighter recovered and continued to fight strategically.

Throughout the bout, Whittaker displayed sharp precision, targeting Costa’s legs and landing effective combinations. Despite Costa’s relentless aggression, Whittaker’s calculated approach proved superior. The judges awarded Whittaker a unanimous decision victory, solidifying his position as a top contender in the middleweight division. In the meantime, he has also received praise from the UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones.

Following the win, Whittaker received well-wishes from fellow fighters, including Jon Jones, who offered congratulations on social media. He wrote, “Congrats! Ya siiiiiickkkkk c*unt @robwhittakermma #ufc298”. 

In the meantime, even his former rival Israel Adasanya chimed in to write a cryptic message for the fighter. He stated, “Hear me out…Post-fight ice baths. Right after doctors check up.” This tweet from the former champion received several hilarious responses from fans.
