Roy Jones Jr. recently fielded questions from Boxing King Media, sparking renewed interest in a potential exhibition fight with Tommy Fury. The interview revealed some roadblocks that might prevent this exhibition from becoming a reality. The interviewer referenced their previous meeting in Saudi Arabia, stating, “In Saudi when I met you recently we talked about, I got you and Tommy Fury to face off. People joked about it but that may seem a realistic proposition. Could that be back on?”

Jones Jr. readily acknowledged the age difference, using it as a reason for optimism. “I mean you got to think about it,” he said. “If Tommy Fury fought Jake Paul, Mike’s three years older than me. So if they can fight why can’t me and Tommy fight, if we wanted to, if Tommy wanted to fight.”

However, Jones Jr. went on to inject a dose of reality, expressing doubts about Tommy Fury’s interest. He pointed towards the financial incentive of a potential rematch with Jake Paul, stating, “But I don’t think they really interested. I think they just gonna move in another direction or they probably waiting for a rematch with Jake Paul, because he beat Jake before and Jake keep making his name bigger by doing things like he’s doing now. So that makes the payday bigger for Tommy.”

Tommy Fury follows Jake Paul’s lead

Amidst the buzz of Jake Paul’s upcoming bout with Mike Tyson, the British cruiserweight has thrown his hat into the ring for a sensational return to action. Speaking with DAZN, he shared his ambitions for a high-profile comeback, eyeing none other than MMA superstar Conor McGregor.

“Yeah, definitely. I’m looking to get this out of the way, nice and recovered and I’ve seen, you know Jake Paul’s fighting Mike Tyson. I mean, why not, me and McGregor next? How’s that? I’ve got a comeback fight and I’d like him to for me return. So, McGregor, get in touch,” he stated, drawing parallels to McGregor’s 2017 boxing foray against Floyd Mayweather. The call-out is a bold move, amplifying the crossover appeal in combat sports.
