This bout served as a platform for Garcia to call out Rolly Romero. Moreover, the WBA Super lightweight champion has engaged in verbal sparring for the past few months.

Despite initial expectations, indications now suggest that Garcia’s next fight might not be against Romero after all. Mostly because Romero has developed other interests and has even talked about how he wishes to go up to 147. Not only this, he’s even named an opponent that he wants to take on in 2024.

Rolly Romero names his next opponent

Rolly Romero teased a contest against Adrien Broner in a post made on X. This was a bit unexpected as there was no prior heat between the fighters, but Romero believes this is a more interesting showdown than that of Garcia. He wrote, “Rolly vs Broner #2024.”

One fan didn’t think this was the right choice for the boxer and expressed his wish. The fan wrote, “We want ryan not broner.”

This is because the fans followed the online beef of Romero and Garcia keenly. In addition, there’s no interesting backstory associated with Rolly vs. Broner, in comparison to Rolly vs. Garcia. But, Rolly assured the fan and wrote, “F**k Ryan, Rolly vs Broner biggest shit talk fest in history.”

Unintentionally, Rolly Romero has also fulfilled the request of a large section of boxing fans who were never interested in the Garcia vs Romero fight. Instead, they wanted to see him go against Devin Haney.

At the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, on Saturday night, Ryan Garcia showcased his triumphant return to the win column with an eighth-round knockout victory over Oscar Duarte. The bout unfolded as a tense and competitive encounter over eight rounds, with both fighters engaged in a back-and-forth exchange. Garcia capitalized on an opportunity, delivering a lightning-fast left hook that found its mark. The precision of this punch led to Duarte being knocked down, and he couldn’t beat the count, resulting in a decisive end to the fight.

After this decisive battle, Garcia made a poll on the X where he asked the fans about his next step in the sport. He wrote, “How should we go about this I’ll let the people decide this in 3 days!” So, at the time, 58% of fans chose Haney as his next opponent, while 42% went with Romero.
