Ryan Garcia was defeated decisively by Gervonta Davis on April 22 earlier this year. The once unbeatable was beaten but “KingRy” remains a top draw. A loss on his record does not look nice but it is not career-ending. The 24-year-old boxer remains one of the most recognized boxers in the world and on many boxers’ hit lists. His popularity is a motivation for fighters to face him for financial incentives including the WBA super-lightweight champion.

Despite being the champion, Rolly Romero is calling out Garcia to move up in weight class and compete against him for his title. He makes a case for the fight to come to fruition as he feels that the match-up could be a pay-per-view blockbuster.

Romero is interested in facing Garcia as the fight between them could be lucrative. Apart from their intriguing styles, what makes their match-up so compelling is their history. During the nascent stages of their career, the two combatants sparred against each other. At the time, neither of them were as accomplished as they are currently. However, it so happened that the stars aligned for them and they both made it big in the sport.

Another similarity is the fact that both boxers were defeated once in their entire career and against the same opponent: “Tank” Davis. Now that the two are household names, it gives them an opportunity to face one another in the ring- a proper pay-per-view bout! And given their style, prestige, and history, Romero considers that the pay-per-view could be a massive hit.

On his Instagram Live, he stated, “The biggest modern f*cking modern PPV is definitely me and Ryan. Me and Ryan, 2 million pay-per-view buys.” Reflecting on his sparring history, he states, “We have been, it’s been something that has been built up. How many f*cking years? ” It is safe to say that Romero wants Garcia next but does Garcia want him next?

Ryan Garcia on a potential match-up against Rolly Romero

Garcia has shown interest in moving up a weight class and competing in the super-lightweight division. And a title bout right off the bat would be ideal for him. On Twitter, he named his next potential opponents and Romero made it to the list. He took the names of Romero, Isaac Cruz, and Teofimo Lopez. It is safe to say that Garcia too is interested in a clash against Romero. It takes two to tango and both combatants are willing which makes the fight a real possibility.
