If there is one movie franchise that evoked an increased interest in professional boxing, it would undoubtedly be the ‘Rocky’ series. And Hollywood superstar, Sylvester Stallone, won the hearts of fans for his portrayal of the series’ protagonist and the most iconic silver-screen boxer of all time, Rocky Balboa. While talking about numbers, the success of the Rocky series played a major role in making Stallone a wealthy man. Stallone currently has an impressive net worth of $400 million. While this net worth is surely sizeable, Stallone was facing eviction from his apartment when he got his first acting role. Moreover, he was only paid $200 for the role.

However, his luck quickly turned when ‘Rocky’ was released in 1976. It should also be mentioned that Stallone had written the script for the movie. The movie’s success quickly put him in the league of Hollywood A-listers. And he also made USD 2.5 million from the movie.

Another notable name is one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time, Muhammad Ali. At the time of his death, Ali was worth $50 million.

Ali’s biggest paycheck came in the year 1980. Notably, he earned $7.9 million for fighting Larry Holmes.

At the height of his career, ‘The Baddest Man on The Planet’ Mike Tyson, had ranked $430 million in purses and endorsements (which is worth USD 700 million today). But a series of bad decisions and financial management forced him to file for bankruptcy in 2003.

Tyson however rebuilt his life and is currently worth $10 million.

With this roost of big earners, there is no denying that boxing has paved the way for some of the richest athletes in the world of sports. And this in turn has also led to major money in on-screen portrayals as well.
