Despite coming in with an aggressive approach, Lopez failed to deliver his punches while getting caught with Martin’s left hook. However, the former champion managed to bust Martin’s nose in the first round but was sent to the canvas in the second round. One judge had Martin winning and scored 95-94 for him, two other judges gave the fight to Lopez scoring 96-93.

However, the most controversial scorecard of the bout was 97-92 in favor of Lopez which has become the talking point since the fight. In addition to this, Garcia and ‘Tank’ were not shy to share their views on the decision.

Garcia on the other hand gave his analysis of the fight as it progressed. In his first tweet, he claimed that Lopez was having a hard time against Martin.

In the next tweet, he expressed his interest to move up from 135 pounds and fight at 140 pounds given Lopez’s current performance in the weight class.

Moreover, he then stated that Lopez was losing the fight in his opinion.

He then claimed that Martin won the fight and if he lost, it would be because of the judges.

Lastly, Garcia called out the controversial 97-92 scorecard and wondered how Lopez was able to secure such a lopsided decision despite the fight telling another story.

Like many fans, Garcia and Davis were certainly not happy about the scoring of this contest. However, this points out a longstanding problem in the sport with the controversial decisions being made to protect fighters. There have been many fights in the past year where the scoring is deemed controversial and is something that needs to be changed in the sport.
