Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather is one of the most talked about boxers to date despite the fact that he has retired from the sport. Most of the time it is because of his flashy lifestyle and lucrative business deals. However, this time, he has come under the media spotlight for a different reason. Mayweather Promotions, the company led by boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr., is facing allegations from one of the boxers on their roster.
Lightweight boxer J’hon Ingram is in the early stages of his career, but he has shown himself to be a promising young fighter. However, recently the fighter shared the details about the problems he is facing with Mayweather and his promotions.

Mayweather has played a mentor role for boxers like Gervonta Davis, Rolando Romero, and J’hon Ingram as well. But Pretty Boy’s promotions company might not be the best place for Ingram. The latter took to X and wrote, “I love Floyd and appreciate everything from him but it’s time for me to part ways I’m so behind from guys my age group and turned pro around the same time. That makes no sense when I’m supposedly with one the “best promotions in the game”.”

In February 2022, Ingram began his professional boxing career with a first-round knockout victory over Jamiah Mays. The 23-year-old defeated Hector Aguirre, and Marquese Steward in two additional fights in the year 2022. However, since signing with Mayweather Promotions in 2023, he has only fought once, that too, on a non-Mayweather promotions card against Jashawn Hunter in March of this year. The boxer had to make a deal himself to fight on the card.

J’hon Ingram shares his struggles at Mayweather Promotions
Ingram continued by describing how Leonard Ellerbe, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions, has not been supportive of the boxer, saying that Ellerbe has stated that “it’s out of his control” to get him fights despite being a part of his promotion.
This has led him to ask Mayweather Promotions to let him out of their contract, so he can fight elsewhere. However, they refused to do that which is what forced him to reveal the issues publically. In an X post, he wrote, “What yall don’t know is this isn’t day 4 of this situation. I sent my notice being professional and been being ignored. We could’ve handled this all off the internet like I wanted to..”

Ingram is a North Carolina native and has recently become a father. While sharing his distress, the boxer stated on X, “I have a mouth to feed. I don’t work a job, I pay my own bills, I only box.Boxers make money when they fight, and you think I’m about to keep my mouth closed when a brother isn’t getting fights?”
Floyd Mayweather’s stable of boxers has produced other fighters who have expressed similar views previously about the promotion company not being the right place for them. J’hon Ingram’s reported desire to depart adds to the ongoing conversation surrounding Mayweather Promotions’ relationship with its boxers. Is this a sign of a larger issue at Mayweather Promotions or simply individual decisions by athletes? Will he find greener pastures elsewhere? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
