The combat sports world has suffered another great loss as professional boxer Carson Jones passed away at the age of 38, according to boxing YouTube channel ‘ES News’. Jones, who hailed from Oklahoma City, had a 44-16 record (with 32 knockout wins) and was a former USBA welterweight champion.

During his career, Jones had served as the sparring partner to some of the biggest boxers of his day, including Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, Gennady Golovkin, and Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford. ‘Mr’ was very well regarded among his peers and was described as ‘lighting up the room’ by ‘ES News’, who knew him well. At the moment, the cause of his death is unknown.

Bobby Dobbs of ‘Fightnews.com’, who was friends with Jones has claimed that he “was known to be suffering from complications during a recent surgery.” The American had a surgery on his esophagus two days ago, during which he faced complications and fell ill.

“I finally have surgery on my esophagus on Monday. I cannot wait. This s–t is driving me insane. I’ve had a max of three bites of food per day for the last few weeks, with a loss of 35 pounds. Some days, there is no food or drink at all,” Jones told fans a few days before the surgery.

Jones had told fans earlier this year on social media that he had been suffering from gastrointestinal problems, but that is about all we know about his cause of death at the moment. Jones is perhaps most well known for his two boxing matches against former welterweight champion, Kell Brook. The duo first fought in 2012, where Brooks won via a decision, but went on to stop ‘Mr’ in the eighth round of their rematch a year later.

Carson Jones’ turbulent early life and boxing career

Carson Jones’ life was a testament to the unbound nature of the human spirit and how each individual can write their own fate. ‘Mr’ was born in prison, and was adopted soon after. His adoptive mother had been a pillar of support throughout his life, and had stood by him every step of the way as he pursued his dream of becoming a professional fighter.
