Despite the controversies in his career, Gervonta Davis, now Abdul Wahid after converting to Islam, has thoroughly entertained his fans through his boxing skills. Given his mature understanding of fighting, Davis has been successful in all of his professional matches. As of now, with only one title by his side, ‘Tank’ is one of the most talked-about entities in the sport.
And given his popularity and demand, several people from the boxing world have already crowned ‘Tank’ with the title of the ‘Face of Boxing’. However, veteran matchmaker, Rick Glaser feels otherwise. Likewise, in a recent statement, the 65-year-old picked Canelo Alvarez over ‘Tank’ Davis.

Undoubtedly, Gervonta Davis is one of the biggest stars currently in the sport. With a record of 29-0-0, the WBA Lightweight title holder is a dream fight for many. Of late, Bill Haney, the father of Devin Haney reported that ‘Tank’ turned down a guaranteed figure of $20 Million offered for a fight against ‘The Dream’. Today, Conor Benn and Eddie Hearn hoped for a fight against Davis next. However, despite Davis’ demand, boxing matchmaker, Rick Glaser feels the title ‘Face of Boxing’ does not belong to ‘Tank’.
Everyone needs to stop calling #TankDavis the "Face of Boxing"
How can a guy without a single legitimate endorsement be the face of anything good!!! Look at NASCAR drivers, they are adorned with sponsors. But Tank Davis doesnt even have one endorsement.
The face of #Boxing is…— Rick Glaser (@RealRickGlaser1) February 4, 2024
Taking to X, the 65-year-old wrote, “Everyone needs to stop calling #TankDavis the “Face of Boxing”.” “How can a guy without a single legitimate endorsement be the face of anything good!!!” he added. “Look at NASCAR drivers, they are adorned with sponsors. But Tank Davis doesn’t even have one endorsement. The face of #Boxing is still #Canelo, & will be till he retires,” Glaser concluded.
At this, one must mention that the clothing brand Under Armour endorses Davis. However, Canelo Alvarez is sponsored by Anheuser-Busch InBev SA and LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton. Anyway, the point is that irrespective of what Glaser says, ‘Tank’ has an endorsement. But, here is how the fans reacted to Glaser’s statement on X.
Boxing fans jump to Davis’ defense
‘Tank’ Davis has proved himself against some of the toughest fighters in the sport already. He has defeated the likes of Leo Santa Cruz, Mario Barrios, and Ryan Garcia. In his fights, he thoroughly entertained the fans with his boxing skills. Hence, when Glaser objected to Davis’ ‘Face of Boxing’ status, several fans jumped to Gervonta’s defense.
According to one, the love for Davis’ boxing is not determined by endorsements.
