Despite being much shorter and less imposing than Muhammad Ali, Rock Brynner was Ali’s bodyguard. He was a part of the boxer’s entourage and also was his press liaison. Brynner even helped organize a boxing match against Al ‘Blue’ Lewis in Dublin in 1972. Sadly, Rock Brynner, 76, passed away on October 13. But did you know his nickname ‘Rock’ was inspired by a different boxer?

His father, Yul Brynner was a notable Hollywood actor. But unlike many celebrities’ children, Brynner went on to make his path and lived life on his terms. He did not confine himself to one profession. Amongst other things, he was a road manager for The Band, a bodyguard for Muhammad Ali, a farmer, a pilot, a novelist, and even a professor of history. Needless to say, Brynner was a jack of many trades. According to the New York Times, the cause of the death was due to complications of multiple myeloma.
