ESPN’s Salvador Rodriguez has confirmed that Ryan Garcia vs Luke Campbell could be on the undercard of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s return. Ryan Garcia was set to face off against Luke Campbell on December 5 initially. However, Campbell has since tested positive for the corona-virus and cannot fight on that night. Despite this, it seems like there will not be a replacement, but a postponement of the same fight.

Canelo Alvarez is free from Golden Boy Promotions and is looking to return to the ring in December. There are several candidates in the running for that event; including the likes of Caleb Plant, Callum Smith, and Billy Joe Saunders. Plant was the leading candidate in the start. However, it now seems that Smith and ‘Canelo’ have agreed to a deal to fight on December 18/19 in Texas.

After reports of that event broke out, Rodriguez confirmed that they were considering adding Canelo’s teammate Ryan Garcia on that undercard. This will give Campbell the time he needs to recover and be ready. It will also give the event a worthy undercard fight. The fight being re-scheduled will also save the promoters the time to negotiate a new opponent for the super-star.

If Ryan Garcia and Luke Campbell are to fight on Canelo’s under-card, it will be a very curious case. Canelo was at war with his promoters and is finally free. However, Golden Boy Promotions still represents the 22-year-old superstar; which includes a deal with DAZN. The streaming rights for the initial fight belonged exclusively to DAZN.

So this could pose a huge threat to the negotiations of the fight. DAZN may have a problem with Ryan Garcia fighting on a card streamed via one of their competitors, while Canelo may not be willing to fight on a DAZN streamed card. Fans around the world will have to hope that they reach some agreement and we can witness this blockbuster event.
