In just three months, WBC interim light heavyweight champion David Benavidez will enter the ring for the biggest fight of his career so far against David Morrell. A win here would mean he will earn a direct shot at the undisputed light heavyweight title after Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol are done with their rematch.

It has not been easy for the Phoenix native as he was starved for chances at 168 lbs and had to switch to 175. He immediately captured the interim title. However, he wouldn’t have been able to do it alone and his family was always beside him. So let’s take a deep dive into his family as Lifestyles South Florida magazine dedicated its December issue with a feature on the Benavidez family.

David Benavidez’s Unlikely Home

The special feature revealed that, despite having their roots in Phoenix, Arizona, Miami had now become an unlikely home for David Benavidez and his wife Karina Silva. “We came to Miami without intending to stay,” stated Silva as she made it clear that they were just here so that the 29-0 boxer could practice. She further elaborated, “Initially, David split his training time between Seattle and Miami, having already owned a condo in the area.”

Before Miami, the family lived in Seattle for a while. However, things changed when Karina decided to visit her husband in Miami along with their two kids. “We were here for about three months, and then we thought, “Why go back?” stated Benavidez, explaining how Miami’s culture and community changed everything.

The couple moved to Brickell, a neighborhood in Miami, Florida permanently in February 2024, and it has been a smooth transition. The 27-year-old gives the credit to Brickell’s family-friendly atmosphere which gives a sense of security to him. “It’s more family-oriented here, a beautiful area where everything is within walking distance,” stated Benavidez.

Furthermore, the move has been lucky for the couple and their entrepreneurial ambitions. Karina oversees two business ventures from her home. She is the proud owner of a clothing boutique ‘Dress In Love,’ in Seattle and a medspa, ‘Botanica Beauty Studio’ in Bellevue. She operates both ventures from her home.
