In 2013, the boxing world came unglued when a 23-year-old Canelo Alvarez dared to challenge Floyd Mayweather‘s reign. Everyone held their breath as the young Mexican took his chances to make himself immortal in boxing annals. However, as the fight night arrived, the dreams shattered. Mayweather put on a masterclass inside the ring and toyed with Canelo throughout the 12 rounds.

It has been 12 years since that unforgettable night for Cinnamon, and he is standing at a similar crossroads. This time, Terence Crawford is standing in front of him as a worthy challenger. A win will cement his legacy as an all-time great. A loss, however, might cast a shadow on his legendary career. However, this time, Canelo Alvarez is ready, and he is stepping into this blockbuster clash to prove with the learnings from that unfortunate night 12 years ago.

Canelo Alvarez’s biggest learning moment

Recently, Canelo Alvarez sat down with The Ring’s Mike Coppinger to have a candid conversation about his future plans. During the conversation, Coppinger noted how Bud has a similar fighting style to Floyd Mayweather. “Not the same fighter obviously or anything, but similar style, he clarified. “Do you think in many ways this is a way for you to show you know what might have happened against Mayweather?” he asked.

Canelo Alvarez nodded in agreement. “Could be,” he stated, as for him, this is a chance to show every doubter that he is different. The Mexican superstar has often stated how the Mayweather bout would have been different if he had a bit more experience. He doubled down on that belief and stated, “I always think that I just need more years before I fight with Mayweather.”

However, rather than regretting the decision, he takes it as a learning curve. That fight taught him patience, something far more valuable than none of his victories have. “But things happen and I learn a lot and I don’t blame myself because of that. Because I learn a lot. But yeah, it’s kind of the opportunity to show what kind of fighter I am right now,” he concluded.

While Canelo is calm and confident ahead of this historic fight, a significant roadblock has appeared in his way. As it turns out, there is a leak in Mexican’s camp, giving Terence Crawford the ultimate edge.

Terence Crawford gets a massive boost

Earlier this week, Dominique Crowder, an 18-0 boxer from Maryland, appeared in an interview with Fight Hype TV. During the conversation, ]she dropped a bombshell revealing that he has a friend in the unified super middleweight champion’s camp. “He(Crawford) can box. Canelo’s slow on his feet,” Crowder said, revealing that his friend is informing him about Cinnamon’s training.

He further added, “I actually got one of my friends in camp with Canelo right now. So I know Canelo’s slow on his feet. Crawford [is] real good on his feet. He [can] outbox him,” giving Bud the upper hand in the clash. However, this is not groundbreaking information. Almost everyone in combat sports knows that Crawford is technically far superior to the Guadalajara native.

That is why even Crowder thinks that despite the advantage, it won’t be easy to defeat Canelo. “But how long he could do that for until Canelo catch[s] up with him. OBT@+ got 12 rounds. It’s like you [are a] tree and he [is] chopping at you until he catch up with you,” he concluded.

Canelo Alvarez is walking into this fight as a favorite, not because of his technical superiority. Rather, for his extraordinary power and weight advantage. The former undisputed 168 champion possesses destructive punches and has knocked far heavier boxers. And according to Crowder, Crawford will have to be wary of that.

If Terence Crawford can avoid a statement punch from Canelo Alvarez, he has a higher chance of winning. However, that will be an unfathomable task for 12 rounds. Who is your pick? Let us know your thoughts down below.
