Ohara Davies did not expect what went down in his fight against Ismael Barroso. Moreover, he has also reasoned out why. Londoner Davies entered the 12-round bout for the vacant WBA interim super lightweight title against Barroso. He was also a considerable 5-1 favorite according to most sportsbooks at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas. But things did not go as planned.

To his surprise, Davies found himself down twice and shockingly defeated by the powerful 40-year-old Venezuelan, with the upset occurring just 1 minute and 53 seconds into the opening round. Davies has now stated an absurd reason for his loss, nothing to do with his training. Instead, he blames the air in his hotel for not being at his physical best during the fight. Regis Prograis has been quick to respond to this claim by the boxer.

Did Barroso have an edge because of the air Davies inhaled before the fight?

According to Ohara Davies and the video he posted, the excess oxygen in his room did not allow him any sleep, leaving him tired and unprepared for his upcoming bout against Barroso. The oxygen used to keep people in casinos awake through the night escaped to his room through air vents present inside. It was not just Davies but the entire team of six who were not able to fall asleep and ended up scrolling on their Instagrams throughout the night.

“2 o’clock, 3 o’clock in the morning, I can’t sleep, I’m scrolling through Instagram and while I was doing that 3 in the morning, I realised there are people that are here with me.” explained Davies. However, Prograis has made another revelation which proves that Barroso did not really have any upper hand because of this incident. “His opponent slept in the same place” revealed Prograis, mocking Davies and rendering his claim irrelevant.

If Barroso stayed in the same hotel, he would also have had to suffer sleeplessness through the night which puts both fighters on fair ground. While Davies might have taken a loss, he is not willing to back down or let it hurt any of his confidence. He is eagerly looking to decide on his next fight.

When is Ohara Davies planning to make a comeback?

The outcome of the fight held significant consequences for both contenders, as the victorious fighter now positions himself for a challenge against WBA champion Rolando Romero. Davies, initially considered a 5-1 favorite by most sportsbooks, faced Barroso in a bout with high stakes. In a post on X, Davies expressed his desire to face top-rated contenders like Jose Ramirez or Regis Prograis in May.

Both Ramirez and Ohara Davies are promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, while Prograis is backed by Matchroom Boxing. Davies conveyed to his manager, Lee Eaton, that he was uninterested in rebuilding fights. If he can’t compete with the best, he would step aside and watch the emerging talents take over. He emphasized his readiness for a challenging match in early May.

Regardless of what Davies might believe, the result will stay the same. What do you think about Davies’ claim? Does it sound just as absurd to you as it did to ‘Rougarou’? Or do you find some basis for reasoning?
