As Regis Prograis came out of his fight against Danielito Zorilla victorious, he had already set his eyes on his next opponent. Very optimistic about the possibility of the matchup, the fighter was bold enough to claim that Devin Haney was also interested in facing him. However, the two hail from different weight classes, and if Haney did in fact want to fight Prograis, he would have to move up his weight class. Interestingly, the WBC has some other plans for the lightweight champion.
The body then mandated Shakur Stevenson to be a challenger to Haney’s title. Now, to choose between Stevenson and Prograis seemed like a difficult task for Haney. The boxing authorities set a deadline for the fighter to make his decision, but ‘The Dream’ didn’t think twice before making his choice. A Devin Haney vs. Regis Prograis was on the cards.

Promoter Eddie Hearn has some serious business to get to. The responsibility to get the big clash to materialize lies on him. As he navigates through the nuances of this peculiar matchup, reports have stated that it will happen at the end of October.
To be specific, on the night of 28th October. Now, the negotiations for the potential matchup seem to be seeing its difficult hours as Prograis has claimed that his opponent is seeking a date change. A furious Prograis also threatened to move on from Haney to fight Adrien Broner. It is to be noted that the 28th of October also happens to be the night when Tyson Fury clashes with Francis Ngannou.
Should the Haney fight collapse, ‘Rougarou’ has alternate plans. Taking to his X profile, the fighter said that he would fight Adrien Broner at the end of the year in Houston. He further promised a massive unification bout against Subriel Matias in the super-lightweight class. Matias currently holds the IBF title in the weight class, while Prograis holds the WBC title.
If the Haney fight doesn’t happen next then I’m gonna fight AB in November/December in Houston and after that a big unification fight with Matias or Teo in New York or Vegas.

However, Teofimo Lopez also seems to be on the list of potential opponents for the fighter.
Teofimo Lopez vs Regis Progias – Can it happen?
If Teofimo Lopez and Prograis do enter the ring, it would be a clash that would generate huge interest. Lopez picked up the WBO super-lightweight title in early June. He defeated Josh Taylor in New York to snatch the belt in such panache, he is now in contention for a unification bout.
Earlier in an interview with Boxing Scene, Prograis had expressed his desire to fight Lopez. He said, “I gotta fight Teo. Got to, got to for sure. I think that would be a huge fight. Me and Teo have to fight. We got to, we gotta fight.”
The list of fighters Prograis has made is testimony to the fact that he desperately is in need of a fight to ascertain his domination in the boxing ring. Adrien Broner seems like an ideal match for Progias since the former is also desperate to reinvigorate his boxing career. However, a unification bout against either Teo or Matias would establish Prograis as a lethal fighter in the weight class.
