Following a resurrection from their maiden losses, Regis Prograis and Mikey Garcia might lock horns in an electrifying matchup. The 32-year-old, Prograis, who might leap to 147 lbs in the future, has already appeared optimistic about bagging Garcia in his next appearance. However, he is yet to come up with a date, and P4P King Canelo Alvarez has a major role to play in it.

Following three straight wins in the 168 lbs division, three-belt unified champion, Alvarez, is now looking for a viable opponent. While IBF titlist Caleb Plant no longer seems to be an option, the Mexican star’s next fight date is crucial to the fate of several other matchups.

In a chat with FightHype.com, Regis Prograis said, “I know it’s supposed to be next. Me and him [Mikey Garcia] is supposed to fight next. But as far as the date, I don’t know, really. What’s really going on is the whole Canelo thing. You know, so we really gotta wait for what Canelo going. You know, Canelo is number one in the sport right now, you know, today.”

“It kind of everything right now. My schedule is kind of going around his schedule. Right now we gotta find out what’s going on here… Because we don’t want to land on the same time.”

Regis Prograis appeared last against Ivan Redkach in April and scored a sixth-round TKO win. He is on a two-fight win streak now, after suffering his first-ever career loss to Josh Taylor in 2019. Akin to him, Mikey Garcia has also rebounded from a loss against Errol Spence Jr., turning Jessie Vargas into his 40 in-ring victim. So ‘Prograis vs Garcia’ might make sense to several fans, but it may get confirmed only after Alvarez announces his return.
