Is Devin Haney's trash talk a sign of confidence or a desperate cry for relevance?

Former WBC super lightweight champion Devin Haney might be losing his mind, at least that’s what Haney’s prior opponent Regis Prograis thinks. Just last week, Prograis and Jack Catterall went toe-to-toe at the Co-op Live Arena in Manchester, where ‘Rougarou’ lost the fight via a unanimous decision.

Following Prograis’ second defeat in a row, Devin Haney mocked the 35-year-old on social media, penning back-to-back tweets, “‘I ruined Regis…’, ‘& I beat him worse then Catterall.. Regis just bitter…’, ‘He don’t have a chin.. bare-knuckle fights aren’t for him. He needs to become an amateur boxing coach.. USA boxing’.”

Meanwhile, Catterall used his latest win to call out Devin Haney on social media, writing, “Big respect champ ready when you are 🤝.” Haney initially responded to Catterall with a warning, “Be careful what u ask for..” But then, ‘The Dream’ took things up a notch, calling on none other than His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, claiming he’s the one guy who could actually turn this fight from fantasy to reality!

As these two started making plans to get back in the ring, Prograis hopped on X to address some speculations online. He wrote, “No, I’m not retiring. I will be a champion again.” While this had nothing to do with Haney, who hasn’t fought since the whole ostarine debacle with Ryan Garcia, he still decided to take yet another shot at Prograis. “Regis.. retire bro,” Haney wrote back.

As this interaction came to a close, Prograis appeared in an interview with Fight Hub TV’s Marcos Villegas, which seems to have forced Haney into changing his tune. Villegas probed Prograis, asking whether Catterall was better than Haney, given he fought both men one after the other.  Comparing the two fights, Prograis suggested Catterall wasn’t better, but claimed Haney had more tools than Catterall. Regardless, he added that his own performance was better in his last fight compared to when he took on Haney. “With the Devin fight, it wasn’t me at all… With this fight, I was more focused.”

The interview quickly caught Haney’s attention, leading him to reverse his earlier suggestion for Regis to retire and extend an invitation for him to help train for the Catterall fight. “Ok Regis don’t retire.. come to camp when I fight Catterall,” Haney wrote. Seeing Haney go back on his word, a surprised Prograis wrote back, “I think you might be bipolar bruh 😂.”

Have an interesting take?

People suffering from bipolar may see severe mood swings, which Prograis felt was the case with Haney. However, that’s not all Prograis had to say.

Regis Prograis reveals Devin Haney is the one who is ruined

After the back-and-forth on X wrapped up, the 35-year-old appeared in an interview with MillCity Boxing, where he boldly claimed that it was Haney who had been ruined by Ryan Garcia. “I think Ryan ruined him for sure. I don’t think he ruined me,” Prograis said when the host brought up Haney’s retirement remark.

It’s worth mentioning that Garcia embarrassed the former undisputed lightweight champion by dropping him three times en route to a majority decision victory. While the results were turned into a no-contest because Garcia tested positive for Ostarine, most people feel Haney wouldn’t survive against Garcia even if they fought again.

“Ryan beat the s**t out of him. Devin beat me in a boxing match, but he didn’t beat the s**t out of me. We’ll only see by his next fight. Let him go fight Catterall. If Devin is talking all that s**t, let him go fight Catterall. Go to the UK and fight Catterall next. I guarantee that they’re probably not going to do that…”  Prograis continued.
