It’s done folks, Tyson Fury will try his luck for the second time against Oleksandr Usyk on December 21. However, before heading into that fight, he needs to sort out the things that went wrong in his corner during the undisputed clash earlier this month. Peter Fury, who trained ‘The Gypsy King’ for the majority of his professional career, has also weighed in about the mishap.
After Fury was handed a split-decision loss, he explained that his cornermen had told him he was ahead in the final rounds. Not to mention, fans had also highlighted that there were way too many voices in Fury’s corner as John Fury, Sugar Hill Steward, and Andy Lee spoke to Tyson. So, while appearing in an interview with October Red, the man who coached Fury to victory against Wladimir Klitschko in 2015, didn’t hold back his criticism.
Sugar Hill Steward was the only sensible man in the corner?

Peter Fury trained his nephew for the first 25 fights of his career, but Tyson decided to take a different path after his return to the sport in 2018 following two years of hiatus. Nevertheless, seeing the sad state of his nephew’s cornermen, Peter said, “There should only be one man in the corner, there shouldn’t be three or four.”
Peter also highlighted that people in Fury’s corner became extremely emotional during the fight, while others were “giving the wrong advice.” Peter thought the only man in Fury’s corner who made a shred of sense “in the last dying stretch of it was Sugar Hill, who said ‘put it on him.’” Interestingly, Steward—the nephew of the legendary trainer Emanuel Steward—guided ‘Thy Gypsy King’ through back-to-back wins against Deontay Wilder.
Not to mention, Steward was also there to train Fury when he stopped Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora in 2022. However, since his fight against Francis Ngannou, which saw the former champion in a sad state, fans and pundits alike, have raised questions about his coaching setup. While Peter went off against the Fury’s corner, he didn’t want to downplay Usyk’s skills.

Oleksandr Usyk deserved the victory against Tyson Fury
Despite his harsh take on Fury’s corner, speaking about his nephew’s Ukrainian opposition, Peter remained extremely respectful as he praised ‘The Cat’. “But look, let’s not take anything away from Usyk. Usyk is an exceptional human being”, said Peter. He went as far as to suggest that even if Usyk had gone down in the second round, his view about Usyk wouldn’t change.
“Listen, he’s a god-fearing man. And you gotta respect him for what he is”, Peter added. Praising Usyk’s unwavering strength during the fight, Peter seemed to have been left in awe. So he told the reporter, “You know, he deserved the victory. He pushed it and pushed it and pushed it… he was prepared to walk through brick walls”.
