Raquel Welch died at 82, and the boxing world has lost a fan. In an interview in 1972, Welch talked about the sport of boxing and her favorite boxers of the time.

In a Tweet by Boxing History, The user reminisced about Welch’s interview she gave in 1972 about the sports she ‘digs.’ Welch was a boxing fan and talked about two heavyweights she liked. Welch said she admired the former world heavyweight champion, Joe Frazier, and added, “he deserves a lot of credit.”

But Muhammad Ali was the actresses’ favorite of all time. She said, “Ali is my favorite, though. He’s a beautiful fighter.”Welch appreciated Muhammad’s personality and his flamboyant fighting style in the ring. She was all praises for the sport and an avid fan of it. Muhammad Ali had the charm and charisma to startle his opponent before a fight. So, it’s not a shocker why Ali was the favorite of the late actress.

Why was Ali so famous?

Muhammad Ali deeply impacted the sport of boxing. Ali’s shining personality was something never seen before in the sport. His social presence attracted the eyes of different celebrities of his time. He played a pivotal role in popularising the sport, from clicking his iconic portrait with The Beatles to the one with a young Stevie Wonder. Ali was the talk of the town at the time.

Ali made as significant an impact outside the ring as he did inside. He played a pivotal role in the civil rights movement. He raised his voice against humanitarian issues, for which he later won the Liberty Medal. Muhammad Ali was greater than the sport and was, in the true sense, ‘The Greatest.’

But, the sport for which de did a lot took a lot from him. Ali was diagnosed with Parkinson’s due to continuous brain trauma and died in 2016.
