Tupac Shakur and Mike Tyson had a very special bond that the world adored for a long time. Their fondness for each other was popular in many circles and was very apparent in the way the two spoke about each other. However, with Shakur’s untimely death in 1996, Mike Tyson lost a close friend, and the world a great artist. Indeed the legacy he has left behind will always remind us of the level of artistry he breathed into his work, but today we should probably talk about how much he adored Mike Tyson.

The two shared a camaraderie that the world grew to admire. They were always there for each other during difficult moments and cheered each other when pinnacles of success approached them. The dramatic turmoil around the lives of Tupac and Mike still had an endearing common ground- the respect the two had for each other.

In a resurfaced short on Youtube, rapper Tupac Shakur can be seen explaining why Mike Tyson would be revered as the perfect ‘Outer City Hero.’ The rapper spoke vividly about how ‘Iron Mike’ is an inspiration for black people living in inner cities. Tupac said, “He represented us. He always lived on the edge. They always wanted to make him a different kind of person and he would never be that. He would always be on the edge.”

Tupac further elaborated on the way Mike Tyson treated black rappers. He said, “He is the only black person I know who made it to the millionaire status, the only black person who treated us, rappers, with some dignity.”

Tupac called Mike his hero and said that the boxer was like a brother to him, and he in fact wants to be like Mike.

The time when Tupac visited Tyson in Jail

Mike Tyson has spent three years in prison on charges of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old back in 1992. Desiree Washington, the beauty pageant contestant claimed that Tyson assaulted her in 1991 when she accompanied him to his hotel room post a beauty pageant rehearsal.

However, ‘Iron-Mike’ still denies the accusations, stating that whatever that happened between the two was purely consensual. In those three years that the boxer spent in prison, he received an array of high-profile visits. But the one that still lingers on in memory is the infamous visit by rapper Tupac Shakur.

In an interview, Tyson described what it looked like when Tupac arrived at the Indiana prison. He said that when the rapper entered the room, Mike’s fellow inmates erupted into applause. They displayed their respect and admiration for Tupac. This came rather as a shock given the fact that the boxer was housed amongst one of the most notorious prisoners in the country who were probably a threat to his safety.

The imprints the two have left on their respective areas of work are incredible. Both Mike Tyson and Tupac’s fondness and admiration for each other will go down in history. It has to be one of the most iconic bonds that two legends shared. Tupac’s death left a void in Mike’s life and the world.
