Beijing Olympic bronze medalist and former professional boxer turned trainer Tony Jeffries is well known for his online boxing tutorials. However, that’s not the only context in which he has gained so much popularity. Time and again, the Sunderland-born boxer shares interesting clips and posts through his Instagram and X/Twitter handles. The latest one he shared features a fight that ends in a knockout.

After his boxing career came to a premature end, Jeffries decided to become a trainer and relocated to the United States with his family. Additionally, he runs a boxing gym in Las Vegas.

On the Instagram post, the English boxer asked everyone, “What do you think?” The adjoining screen splits in half. While one shows the fight footage, the other shows him reacting to it. The word ‘Fake’ appeared at the top. So the clip shows one of the fighters pushed back to the ropes. His opponent, the one in the green trunk, could be seen attacking him relentlessly.

The referee might be observed walking behind that fighter. But then, all of a sudden, finding a gap, the fighter in the yellow trunk, who thus far looked helpless with his hands raised, taking all the beating, suddenly finding a gap, goes into a counterattack and connects with a straight overhand.
The surprise response proved too much for the fighter in green, who immediately went down to the canvas. But it seems the way he went down so dramatically must have raised questions in viewers and fans’ minds. Even Tony Jeffries’ face had that expression of disbelief.
Genuine combat or deception?
Reviewing some of the comments, it appears that to quite a few fans, it looked like a fake fight. However, there were others who didn’t shy away from stating their viewpoints, including the liberty of taking a dig or two. Let’s check out what some of the users had to say about the fight.
According to this user, the fight may not have been a fake one. But for sure, they believe that neither of the fighters could box well. They said, “Maybe not fake… I think both not a good boxer though.” The next user, however, differed in his opinion. According to them, the way the fighter in green fell on his back just reminded them of the fights taking place in WWE. Hence, they consider the fight a fake one. “The way he landed on his back sounds like WWE (Smack Down). It’s fake,” the user said.
But whatever is said and done about the fight, this user found the fight a bit more believable than what they saw happen in the bout between Chael Sonnen and Anderson Silva. The user said, “More convincing than Chael Sonnen versus Anderson Silva in their boxing match.” The next fan appears to know a thing or two about the fight and whether it took place. So they shared that the match took place in a hotel where any random person could challenge anyone. The bout takes place without any restrictions or rules. Hence, in the fan’s view, it was just another context with fighters having mediocre skills.

“That ring is in an hotel where everyone can challenge a random, amateur or not; there are not restrictions and barely have rules. So, I think this is a random fighting a mid-skilled fighter,” the fan said. Finally, another knowledgeable fan updated that the fight must be a Muay Boran one. It is the more exciting version of the well-known Muay Thai style. “I think that’s Muay Boran, which is more of an entertaining showcase of Muay Thai,” opined the fan.
Clearly, from the face of it, it’s difficult to confirm the precise details regarding the fight. But the way it went and the final knockdown were nothing short of dramatic, for sure.

A couple of months ago, Tony Jeffries shared a few posts on the Jake Paul–Mike Tyson fight. He questioned what would happen to Mike Tyson’s legacy in front of modern-day fans if ‘The Problem Child’ were to knock him out. In a tweet, he said, “He has nothing to prove. If it goes horribly wrong for Mike Tyson. He will be remembered by the younger generation as “that old boxer that got knocked out by Jake Paul.” I’m sorry to say this is possible. The man is a living legend, a boxing icon. I think this fight is GREAT for Jake, not Mike..” Surely, Tony Jeffries is a voice that not only speaks for the boxers and the fans but, most significantly, for boxing itself.
What’s your take on the short video? Do you also think that it’s a fake fight?
