Is Jake Paul the real deal in boxing, or just a clout-chasing disruptor?

Jake Paul is disrupting and altering the boxing landscape. It’s a visual, which is not sitting well with most of the pros. The likes of Gervonta Davis saw their childhood hero, Mike Tyson, battered and gassed out in a fight and have since launched an assault on the American fighter. The latest to join the fray is Edgar Berlanga.

Paul, 27, and Tyson, 58, fought it out with their professional record on the line, and it panned out exactly how many had envisioned—’Iron Mike’s body failing him despite him being mentally aware of how to block and counter his opponent’s blows. Chaos and disgust swept through the boxing community after it, and it seems some of them have approached Berlanga, 27, to dish out punishment on ‘Problem Child’ for his wrongdoings.

‘The Chosen One’ turned to his X handle and again proudly flaunted his Puerto Rican heritage. He disclosed his desire to do a dismantling job on Paul, as he wrote, “I will f*ck you up @jakepaul Puerto Rico keeps tagging me. You f*cked up 60 yr old man. Puerto Rico is mine 🇵🇷”

Interestingly, Berlanga, at 22-1, recently revealed his plan to go up to heavyweight and fight. It’s not confirmed whether he will eventually pick up a fight with the Cleveland native or not. However, his discontent with Paul is evident. Clearly, he is not the only one. Conversely, the 11-1 record holder is now fixated on climbing up the ladder and fighting even bigger names. It’s an open secret that he wants Canelo Alvarez next. But it appears his PFL friend, Francis Ngannou, might be willing to join the list now.

Ngannou, 38, who trained under Tyson before making his pro debut, warned about slapping Paul if the two crossed paths next. The PFL champion declared, “Next time I see this @jakepaul guy I’m gonna give him 2 or 3 slaps 😬😬.” What’s more? Both are signed under the PLF banner. So, a meeting between the two is inevitable. But Paul has already triggered the word war.

Responding to his comment, Paul picked up Jon Jones as the better heavyweight fighter when the UFC 309 concluded. He wrote back, “Clout chasing doesn’t suit you legend. Maybe Jon Jones is the better heavyweight after all.” Paul’s long list of potential suitors is growing, and it’s not sure who he will fight next or at what weight class, as heavyweight is not his preferred division.
