It’s almost two months since he fought and demolished Caleb Plant. But David Benavidez had one big fight that occupied his mind. He has repeatedly called out and spoken up on a historic clash with reigning Super Middleweight champion ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. The latter has not consented because of his often-stated stand of not wanting to fight fellow Mexicans. But more significantly, like Benavidez, Alvarez also has a fight to reckon with. He wants to avenge the loss he suffered at the hands of Dmitry Bivol on May 7 last year.

Opportunity favors those who prepare themselves in advance. So David Benavidez is back to the gym and sweating it out vigorously. Fighthub uploaded a short video of the twenty-six-year-old practicing head movement as he braces himself for an iconic bout. Since the time it came, the clip has attracted nearly 15,000 views and roughly five hundred likes. Many fans lauded ‘The Mexican Monster’s’ efforts. But a few still doubt whether he is ready for someone like ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.

One fan stated that they used to believe ‘Canelo’ Alvarez would beat Benavidez effortlessly. But after witnessing the Mexican’s bout against John Ryder, it appears that the fight with Benavidez would be on equal terms. The user wrote, “Used to think Canelo would wipe the floor with this dude. [But], after seeing him against Ryder, I’d say it’s a pretty even fight now.” Another fan named Nicholas Ali contends that Benavidez had become more severe and well-organized. They wrote, “HE HAS BECOME DISCIPLINED AND MATURED IT’S HIS TIME.

The following user also prefers putting his money on David Benavidez. He loves dominating his foes and moves slowly. But he makes up for the demerits by going very fast and razor-sharp during an attack. If he maintains first-rate body conditioning, then Benavidez will be a formidable opponent to beat. The user wrote, “Benavidez has an awkward bully style. [He’s] a plodder, but he’s very quick and sharp on the offense. Going to be hard to beat him if he’s able to retain a high level of conditioning.

Of course, a bunch of naysayers, too, joined with their standpoints. Some were just not happy to see the way Benavidez moved his head. According to Mohebullah Afzali, Alvarez’s regular uppercut will bust him anytime. They wrote, “The way he dips his head and chin low, Canelo is going to catch him with a decent uppercut.” Alex Herrera postulated that since ‘Canelo’ Alvarez is shorter among the two, even if Benavidez moves his head, it will hardly trouble him. But had they been of similar heights, then the head movements would have benefited Benavidez. They wrote, “If Canelo was the same height as Benavidez, it might be a problem for Canelo due to [Benavidez’s] head movement, but since Canelo [is] short that will help not, that much.

The John Ryder fight raised several questions about ‘Canelo’ Alvarez’s ability to stay in the ‘big game’. The way the Englishman took him the distance, many wonder whether he can take on a much stronger foe like Dmitry Bivol, let alone an aggressive, much-younger swarmer like Benavidez. What’s your take on the reactions?
