“Preparing His Son for Failure”: Bill Haney’s Bombshell Confession About His Son and Shakur Stevenson Stuns Boxing World

Devin Haney is coming off a steaming hot loss at the hands of Ryan Garcia last month, but an old sparring session between Devin and Shakur Stevenson seems to have caught the internet’s eye. And Devin’s father, Bill Haney, seems to be in the middle of it! What sparring session? When did that happen?

Well, back around August last year, ‘The Dream’ Haney defeated Vasyl Lomachenko in a close fight, which prompted Stevenson to pursue a fight against Haney. It started a back and forth between the duo on X, resulting in ‘Sugar’ releasing a conversation with Bill, where Bill acknowledged Shakur had gotten the better of his son. In response, Bill Haney released sparring footage, where Stevenson quit while sparring with Haney. A fight between them never ended up happening, but when the host of VladTV brought up the sparring footage in an interview with Bill, his response shocked the fans. 

Bill Haney believes that the gap has closed

During the interview, the host probed Bill Haney about the sparring footage and his claim that Stevenson had quit in the middle. To this, Bill calmly responded, “It was a sparring session, they have been sparring since they were kids, you know what I mean.”  Later, addressing the clip released by Stevenson, Bill revealed what he really told Shakur Stevenson.

“And it was a legendary tape of me telling Shakur that the gap had gotten closer and closer and closer with Devin [to a point] where there wasn’t any gap,” said Bill. However, when explaining the footage he shared where Stevenson had allegedly quit in the middle of a sparring session with Devin, Bill’s story seems to have changed.  

Bill said, “And everyone has seen a tape floating around of Shakur and [Devin] and they said it was even in the sparring. Some people liked Devin, some people liked Shakur, and I told him, one day in the pros it’s gonna happen. And it’s gonna be red hot when it happens.” Seeing such a change in statements from Bill, the boxing world was left stunned!

A fight between Shakur and Haney has been one of the most talked about clashes in the community, but things haven’t been favorable enough for it to become a reality. However, with Bill’s statement, many fans contemplated what would happen if they fought. One user suggested Bill knows his son will fail against Shakur Stevenson, but they would still move forward to failure. 

Someone else believes if the fight ever happens, it would be one of the more boring fights. This could be because of their fighting styles, which have been criticised for being extremely defensive.

Another user compared the fight to music that can help people fall asleep at night, implying it would be boring. However, Stevenson has promised to be more aggressive after his abysmal performance against Edwin De Los Santos last year. 

The next user brought up failed negotiations between Devin and Shakur, where the latter alleged that Haney had offered him a 25% purse split, which he had to decline for being too low. 

One user asserted that Stevenson has always been more talented compared to Haney. However, things can be unpredictable once fighters get in the ring, so the results could shock fans again.
