Boxing fans can still remember the moment when Floyd Mayweather came out to face Oscar De La Hoya in their bout which was dubbed “The World Awaits”. During the fight, Mayweather chose to wear green, white, and red trunks, which are the colors of the Mexican flag. This decision was seen as a way to appeal to the large Mexican fan base. It was also a way for Mayweather to pay homage to Mexican fighters and their contributions to the sport. He even wore a “Sombrero”.

Not only that, but Gervonta Davis also once wore Mexican colors in his fight against Leo Santa Cruz. It seems Boxing champion Claressa Shields also desires to follow in Mayweather’s footsteps. In a recent tweet, she shared her desire to don the Mexican flag’s colors against a Mexican fighter. However, she revealed that her outfit has already been made, so she will be unable to do so.

Claressa Shields was all ready to go toe-to-toe against Puerto Rican boxer Hanna Gabriel. However, Gabriel found herself removed from the card after she tested positive on the VADA test. Though Gabriel’s manager Lou DiBella stated that it was because of her applying medication to her dog. But Shields’ manager Dimitry Sallita said that it will be an unfair fight if they allow her to face Claressa with Clostebol in her system. Now she will be fighting against Washington native Maricela Cornejo. Fans had a lot to say about her desire to copy Mayweather’s actions. They took the chance to take jabs at the American boxer.
