The prospect of a match between Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez excites everyone in the boxing community. The two top dogs at 168 lbs facing each other in an all-out war will determine if Canelo truly deserves his spot as the best in the business. and that excites every combat sports fan. While the Mexican Monster has been chasing the fight for years, the Guadalajara native has mostly dismissed the idea of the fight. In a recent Ring Magazine interview, the unified super middleweight champion even claimed that he had not completely ruled out the fight despite not liking Benavidez’s “approach” to asking for a fight.

The hope of seeing this fight excited the fans and on February 1, as Benavidez earned a unanimous decision victory against David Morrell, Canelo’s camp made the matter even more complicated by being at the event.

Team Canelo Alvarez mum on appearance at Benavidez event

As the Benavidez-Morrell fight was over, Boxing Social caught up with the man behind Canelo—his manager and long-time trainer Eddy Reynoso at the T-Mobile Arena—as Reynoso was leaving the arena. Apparently, the trainer/manager was there to watch the Benavidez vs. Morrell fight. And the reporters did not let the opportunity go as they swarmed him.

The reporters asked the veteran trainer about the possibility of a Benavidez vs. Canelo fight. While Reynoso did not give any affirmation of the fight, his demeanor was different this time. Till now, Canelo Alvarez and his camp have completely dismissed the idea of the fight. They even asked for a whopping $150 million paycheck to even consider the fight.

However, this time, rather than denying the fight, Reynoso completely ignored the question and walked away from the reporters. While there is still no confirmation regarding the fight, the changed stance by the unified 168-pound champion’s camp has given them some hope. However, most still remain pessimistic about the showdown.

A user wrote, “We gunna be Debating this until the end of time, Because this fight will never happen, Guaranteed. Benavidez is One potential win Away from Confirming He is able to do something Canelo will never be able to do. Become the Undisputed Light Heavyweight Champion of the world,” claiming that the Mexican Monster will surpass the legacy of Canelo Alvarez if he defeats either Dmitry Bivol or Artur Beterbiev, something which Canelo has previously tried and failed.

Another user had the same idea as he claimed that, “Benavides is too big for Canelo,” referring to the size difference between the two. Recently, during an interview on the Pound 4 Pound podcast, Benavidez claimed that his natural weight is around 200 lbs. This will give him far more advantage at 175 lbs than the unified super middleweight champion.

One user advised everyone to not pay much heed to this visit and wrote, “Refuses… dude didn’t even say yes or no lol,” claiming that the Canelo Alvarez vs. David Benavidez fight will never happen.

However, a Canelo Alvarez fan thinks that the size won’t matter when the duo face each other. He wrote, “He didn’t refuse s**t. He can’t speaks English well that’s why he didn’t respond. Canelo will destroy Benavidez,” claiming that Reynoso only refused to comment because he couldn’t understand the question. However, we know that ain’t true. Reynoso may not be the most eloquent of English speakers but the veteran trainer definitely understands the language.
