However, now that De La Hoya considers selling GBP and become the first billionaire Hispanic athlete in history, fans are criticizing him heavily on Twitter. Following the criticism received from fans, De La Hoya pens a ‘motivational’ message emphasizing depression and mental health issues faced on his ‘glorious’ journey in boxing.

Some weeks earlier, De La Hoya expressed the desire to work alongside Floyd Mayweather and UFC President Dana White. However, now, in a shocking turn of events, he reveals an offer he cannot resist.

“I overcome depression and mental health 3 times over by doing what I love in the ring. I win 11 tittles in 6 weight divisions. I almost loose my life because of wrong choices. Stop talking shit and please use me as an example to motivate yourself and tell yourself “I am worth it””

Looking back at Golden Boy’s boxing career since he turned pro

A former Olympic gold-medalist, De La Hoya fought for sixteen long years in the sport since his professional debut. He had 45 bouts, of which he won 39, and lost 6 to some of the bests. Starting from 1992, for a stretch of 7 years, he remained undefeated in pro boxing. And His first loss came against Felix Trinidad in 1999.

In his active career, De La Hoya lost twice to Shane Mosley. His other losses came from Bernard Hopkins and Floyd Mayweather. The last match was against Manny Pacquiao, and unfortunately, De La Hoya quit in the eighth round. Following this defeat, Golden Boy retired from boxing and focused solely on promoting fights.
