Edgar Berlanga is all set to return to the boxing ring in March 2025. He has already made his desire to get some big matches next year quite evident. However, before that, Eddie Hearn might be planning to give him a tune-up fight against Gabriel Rosado. Considering this is the last fight of Berlanga under the Matchroom’s current contract, there is a high chance that he will re-sign with Hearn.

Rosado has been on a disaster run for a while now, losing his last four fights consecutively. All the signs point towards the fact that it should be an easy victory for Berlanga. However, in a conversation with FightHubTv, Rosado urged Hearn to make the fight while claiming he would knock Berlanga out because of the history they share.

Gabe Rosado’s new motivation

During the conversation, Rosado acknowledged his disaster run. The 39-year-old last fought against Bektemir Melikuziev in April, where he lost via a unanimous decision. The Philadelphia native had already knocked out Melikuziev back in 2021 and accepted that he had no motivation for the rematch, yet still chose the match for the wrong reasons.

However, things are different if Edgar Berlanga is involved because of the history they share. “This is a fight where, it got so much drama to it. Me and Berlanga, he from New York, from Brooklyn. I’m from Philly, from North Philly, we both Puerto Ricans. It is the perfect recipe,” claimed Rosado while re-igniting the long-term rivalry between Brooklyn and Philadelphia.

As Berlanga is planning to have a return fight in his native land, Puerto Rico, Rosado claims that a bout against him makes perfect sense. “Matchroom and Eddie Hearn needs to realize that what that history is. Philly-Brooklyn to Puerto Rican. What it does for the island. It’s bigger than they think,” claimed Rosado as he promised a worthwhile fight to Hearn from both entertainment and financial perspective.

Rosado once again talked about his newfound motivation for a fight against Edgar Berlanga and promised to knock out his Brooklyn rival.

Rosado’s stern warning to Edgar Berlanga

The interviewer asked Rosado whether he still had the power that he showed against Melikuziev in 2021. In a confident tone, the 39-year-old claimed that he still has enough power to knock Edgar Berlanga out. “For sure, definitely man. In this sport, anything can happen. What I mean and like I said, man, it’s a fight where I’ll be motivated,” added Gabe Rosado.

The 26-17-1 boxer then talked about the Edgar Berlanga vs. Canelo Alvarez fight and how it exceeded his expectations. While Rosado claimed that Canelo was far superior to ‘The Chosen One’, the fight that the latter showed impressed him. “He looked good against Canelo in the aspect of he showed heart. I’m not saying he looked good skill-wise because Canelo definitely was the more experienced guy. But he proved that he had heart and he proved that he went in there to actually win,” stated Rosado.

Before the fight, the veteran Philly boxer was worried that Edgar Berlanga was there only for the paycheck but was glad to be proven wrong. This further motivated Rosado to fight the 27-year-old if the opportunity ever presented itself.

The 38-year-old declared that Berlanga is “going to come even better than he was cuz now he going to take some tricks that he learned from Canelo. He going to bring that to the table but I feel like even with that I still could beat him,” calling out Eddie Hearn and Edgar Berlanga.

There has been no official confirmation regarding the fight. However, various sources have claimed that the fight will happen. On the other hand, while Rosado is confident and motivated, it will be a huge upset if he somehow manages to defeat Berlanga.
