George Kambosos Jr. has the uphill task of reviving his career. Some are gradually categorizing him as a ‘one-hit wonder’, as he has failed to muster a noteworthy win since defeating Teofimo Lopez in 2021. With another defeat in his record column now, the Aussie boxer has a rough road ahead. But where does it go from? We have undertaken the task of predicting 3 names that might pump new life into his boxing career. So, who are they?

‘The Emperor’ recently found himself dropped to one knee as Vasyl Lomachenko punched his way to the top and clinched the IBF title. Realistically, he won’t be awarded any title fight soon unless he clears some top names in the lightweight division. The first such name is Edwin De Los Santos.

The last time Edwin De Los Santos fought Shakur Stevenson, he turned in an embarrassing performance, failing to throw double-digit punches in any of the rounds. His stocks plummeted immediately, and many struck him off. But the Dominicano has a burning desire to make amends and bounce back strongly. Doesn’t that sound similar to Kambosos Jr.’s situation?

A clash between them will lead to a path of resurgence for both of them. It will be a high-stakes fight. That’s not all. It’s a perfect matchup for boxing fans. Kambosos Jr. and De Los Santos are power punchers and will swarm each other without paying any heed to defensive gaps. The probable fight will be financially successful and produce exciting action.

Notably, De Los Santos has a KO ratio of 87%, as 14 of his 16 wins have come via KOs. In addition, he is ranked #4 in both WBC and WBA rankings. So, the fight also provides George Kambosos Jr. a chance to move up in the ranks and restore his credibility. But if the Sydney native wants a fresh challenge and a rapid surge to the title conversations, he can go after William Zepeda.

William Zepeda: a high-risk, high-reward fight

Currently, Zepeda, 27, is the mandatory to Gervonta Davis‘ WBA crown and newly crowned Lomachenko’s IBF throne. The Mexican fighter is churning out KO wins without sweating and is well in a position to surmount a challenge at the top. But all the title clashes are booked, and he is currently without a name.

While Zepeda retired Maxi Hughes in the corner after a beating for 4 rounds, he is still untested at the top. The 30-0 record holder can ease into the title fights as he can take down Kambosos Jr. next. Not only does this fight give him a taste of a former world champion, but it also helps him understand his boxing acumen better.

Meanwhile, for Kambosos Jr., this will be a steep test with high return and risk. A win might position him for a rematch with Lomachenko, whereas a loss will discard his name off the top fighters’ list. At 30, can he afford such a risk? If not, then he can pick Jamaine Ortiz.

You can call Ortiz, 28, unlucky for his recent result. The American took on his second fight in the 140-pound division against Teofimo Lopez for the championship. But he came up short, this time in a controversial decision loss.

We know there is a running theme of redemption, but that is where you go after you have dropped a title fight. ‘The Technician’ also knows the same and will be on the hunt for another top contender, this time in the lightweight division. He is calculative and knows how to execute his game plan by maintaining distance, using jabs, and counter-punching. This makes the hypothetical fight with Kambosos Jr. interesting, as both have contrasting fight styles, and this might turn out to be a good matchup.
