The first loss is always hard to bounce back from. Lack of confidence and disbelief in one’s skills plague one’s mind. But Shadasia Green is built differently. Can the American boxer do it and insert herself into the title picture? Or will she stumble further down?

The two boxers with contrasting but similar storylines meet this Saturday when they fight on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Perry bill. Green had bludgeoned the middleweight division with brute power and swayed the fans. At 34, she has enough experience in her bag, along with polished weapons and a fan-friendly style. The fans have enjoyed her devastating display and have followed her closely, as she racked up a record of 13-1 with 11 KOs. In addition, the New Jersey native’s 84.62% KO ratio evokes fear among her opponents and has helped her carve out a reputation as a fearsome knockout artist. Her long lever and her height of 5’8″ (173 cm) have also come to aid, as she freely throws her hands on her foes and imposes her will on them.

So, how does Spence escape from Green’s wrath? The 39-year-old made her pro debut way back in 2010, but her career has been marred with inactivity, and she has only gone through the ropes 14 times, collecting a record of 8-4-2 with 6 KOs, which doesn’t seem impressive on the first. But Spence has always come into the boxing ring, throwing powerful punches, moving fast, and looking for a quick victory.

Needless to say, it doesn’t always end in her favor. Her KO ratio of 75% also suggests her aggressive approach and her reliance on power. However, the Canadian boxer utilizes her taller frame of 5’9″ (175 cm) well to reach her competitor’s skin first and unload heavy punches. Will it be enough to brush aside the hard-pressing Green?

Prediction: X factor, and where will the fight be won?

What went wrong when Green went toe-to-toe against Franchon Crews-Dezurn, who handed her first defeat? Before the two met, Green made easy work of all her 13 rivals. With the WBC title on the line, Crews-Dezurn brought her A-game and a well-thought-out game plan. Not only didn’t she shy away from putting on an ugly fight with an overreliance on clinching to negate Green’s power, but she also landed more clean punches.

The clinching and smothering never allowed ‘The Sweet Terminator’ to utilize her power in close quarters and Crews-Dezurn, being crafty, was quick on her feet to block Green’s devastating connections.

The result? Green lost every round in a 10-fight contest, except one. Crews-Dezurn has left a blueprint for Spence to follow. That is, to keep Green tied up and never let her build momentum. But at the same time, the Ontario native has to be mindful of Green’s X factor, her right hand, and her heavy punching power, which she followed up with body shots and a left hook to the temple to end fights.

Spence has her work cut out to follow the plan diligently and never let Green unleash her power or find her rhythm. But the pressing question is: can she do it, given her lack of activity? Before ‘The Nightmare’ stepped in the ring last year against Melinda Watpool, she was coming off a 6-year layoff. And it showed in the fight. She looked like a ghost of her former self, and at 39, her power and fast reflexes had faded away. It’s hard to imagine how she could turn back the clock and dust off her ring rust.

Spencer’s record before the layoff was also a tad disappointing, as she had lost to Hanna Gabriels and only marginally secured a win over Aleksandra Magdziak Lopes. While it looks like an extreme task for her now, she has enough experience and wisdom to pull off an upset. Will she be able to do it? The fans will find out on July 20.
