John Fury is ready to rumble with Mike Tyson. The Fury family lynchpin has expressed his desire to exchange blows with the former Heavyweight champion on multiple occasions. He is actively looking to fix the dates so that he can mark his boxing comeback and end it splendidly. While no one is sure when and if the fight will go through, Fury is upbeat about his chances. But can he really pull the rug beneath the fearsome boxer and hand him a defeat?
“I will fight Mike Tyson. I will not be denied, I will die in a fight,” Fury declared once in a video going back to 2020. The former British boxer has since pushed the pedal on verbal warfare and is generating traction for the hypothetical fight. Likewise, ‘Iron Mike’ has teased his return for another exhibition match. If the boxing gods end up smiling at Fury, he can have the fight of his life and maybe a shot at greatness too.

John Fury vs. Mike Tyson: Record, Height, and X-Factor
Some fans might not be aware, but the Fury family head was an active boxer in the 1980s and 1990s. Standing tall at 6’3″, he holds a record of 8-4-1. Meanwhile, Tyson retired with a professional record of 50-6. However, he is relatively shorter at 5’10”. But his short stature, compared to other heavyweights, has never been a concern.

You can look at the likes of David Jaco and Eddie Richardson, both at 6’6″, who Tyson knocked out cold in the first round. Therefore, there is nothing on the paper that pushes the narrative of Fury bagging a win against one of the most vicious fighters in history.
Neither Fury has the resume nor the skills that make him a frontrunner. But he has honed his mic skills, and he knows how to get into his opponent’s head. Maybe he can break into the American legend’s mind and put him under pressure. Additionally, the 59-year-old believes he has cracked the formula to beat Tyson.
How can John Fury beat Mike Tyson?
The Irish fighter knows he is in peak physical condition compared to the American boxer. Recently, he disclosed how he intends to fight Tyson. Fury said via The Sun, “I had eight wins. I beat the Italian heavyweight champ. He was six foot seven, 18 stone. I beat him, the man who beat Tyson.”

“He’s [Mike Tyson] f****d and I’m f****d. But I think that I am in a little bit of a better condition than him. And I know that I am every bit as strong as him,” Fury vehemently declared.
Fury has backed his claim with his 6-mile daily run and the tutelage of current WBO champion Tyson Fury. In addition, he is slowly molding Tommy Fury into a future champion all by himself. Meanwhile, Tyson also boasts a shredded physique. He even once weighed 400 pounds but again found motivation to train his body as he faced Roy Jones Jr. in November 2020.

However, Fury has been on the receiving end of Tyson Fury’s heavy punches in training for years now. Compared to that, Tyson’s punches would feel feeble. The elder Fury might have last fought over two decades ago in the squared ring, but his fitness levels are at their peak right now.
An old but fighting man
Both Fury and Tyson have teased their fight, which could take place in Saudi Arabia. The Irishman, in particular, has laid down the differences between the two. The difference between the two has evaporated, and, if Fury is to be believed, both are in fair competition. In an interaction with The Sportsman, he reiterated, “But he’s [Mike Tyson] not the man he was.”

“I’m not the man I was. But I just think that we’re on a level playing field now. Because he’s abused himself in his life with all kinds of crap. Growth hormones, new blood in the veins and all that job,” he added.

If Tyson and Fury had to clash when they were active in the 1990s, Tyson would have flatlined the Irish boxer. But it’s 2023, and times have changed. Fury’s shenanigans are all over the place. He is flipping tables, trying to break glass cages, and whatnot. When and if Fury and Tyson step into the ring, it’s Fury who might bag a win. Surely Tyson is a former world champion, and his skills are impeccable, but old age is a great leveler. A fighting man collects the win, not a fighter.
