Carrington, at 27, is only entering his prime and impressed the larger circle of boxing fans and pundits with his aggressive approach and well-rounded skills. He had a splendid amateur career, which he cut short in 2021 to turn pro and he has been on an impressive run since then. You can point to his unblemished record of 12-0 with 8 KOs, which was one reason The Ring labeled him one of the best prospects in boxing. The other was his KO ratio of 66.67%, which suggests his ruthlessness inside the ring.
What’s more? The Brooklyn native has the frame and dimension to impose his will on his opponents, as he stands tall at 5’8″ (173 cm) and has a longer reach of 72″ (183 cm). He is gradually molding himself to be a formidable name in the featherweight division. But Carrington has to go through Segawa first, who has fought the best that the division has to offer.

Segawa, at 33, is the older of the two and also has more fights under his belt. The Ugandan boxer made the United States his base, as he now doubles up as a fighter and a personal trainer at Urban Boxing DC. While he made his debut a little over a decade ago, he has already fought the likes of Jamaine Ortiz and Ruben Villa, who all have challenged for the gold at the top level. Not to mention Segawa’s exploits against Elijah Pierce, who is a top contender at 126. Despite facing the steep and stiff competition, he has amassed a respectable resume of 17-4-1 with 6 KOs.
Moreover, the Kampala native doesn’t boast one-punch KO power, he slowly chips away from his foes, and his KO ratio of 35.29% also paints a similar picture. While nothing separates the two when it comes to height, as they share identical measurements, Segawa has a shorter reach at 69″ (175 cm). But where he covers the ground is his relentless pursuit of a victory. Does he have another upset left in him?

What separates Segawa from the rest? ‘The RULER’ prefers to stay inside and exchange punches, where he likes to unload hooks and uppercuts to the head with a focus on landing blows to the body. He causes trouble for his competitors with his constant effort and high-volume punching, which doesn’t stop until the bell separates them. This steady output, along with his efficiency in fighting in close quarters, makes him a dangerous fighter. You can always look at what he did to Villa.

Compared to him, Carrington has the precision and power to force stoppage wins. You add into the mix his technical prowess, good ring generalship, and footwork, and you have a recipe for a lethal boxer in the ring. But he remains untested at the top, unlike Segawa. That’s not it. ‘Shu Shu’ needs to cope with the southpaw stance of Segawa and his punches, which will come from awkward angles. However, Carrington has power and youth with him, which will ease his way. But it’s a tough fight to call, despite Carrington’s recent 3-fight KO streak. He might need something special to triumph over Segawa’s mental fortitude, and if he can shatter it, he will bag the win. Otherwise, a harsh reality check awaits him.
