While Ryan Garcia is grappling with his various debacles on and off of social media, there hasn’t been much talk about Devin Haney or what’s next for the former undisputed lightweight champion. However, that seems to have changed as Eddie Hearn appeared in a podcast with boxing writer Chris Mannix on June 15.
After losing to Ryan Garcia via majority decision, Devin Haney has been fighting for the decision to be overturned due to banned substances found in Garcia’s system on several tests conducted by VADA. While Garcia awaits his trial in front of NYSAC, Eddie Hearn has revealed the next steps for Devin Haney while exposing the reality behind the PPV numbers in the fight against Garcia.

Speaking to Mannix about Ryan Garcia, Hearn revealed that because Haney didn’t lose his WBC super lightweight title, he will have to face the mandatory. “Devin’s got this mandatory out there with Sando Martine”, said Hearn. Claiming this puts Haney in an extremely tricky spot, Hearn strongly advised Haney to take the fight against Sandor Martin. Later in the podcast, Hearn even made another revelation about the payouts from the fight.
Hearn said, “I’m sure both were disappointed with their numbers, for you know… that their cheques for the last one”. Whereas Oscar De La Hoya has suggested Garcia made upwards of $30 million from the fight and since the purse was split 60:40, Haney must have walked out with a good amount as well. Regardless, Hearn claims, “because people just bluff and get in their head” these fighters create a false sense of the amount of money they can make from the fight.
Meanwhile, Hearn has also revealed whether there will be a rematch between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney!

Devin Haney doesn’t want a rematch
While Haney has been fighting for the decision to be turned in his favor, it’s more likely that the fight may be declared a no contest. And Ryan Garcia seems to be ready for a rematch with Devin Haney to prove he is the superior fighter out of the two. However, while appearing in an interview with Mill City Boxing a couple of days ago, Eddie Hearn revealed Haney’s intention.
“The way Devin feels at the moment, he doesn’t really want the rematch. You’ve got to understand, he took a lot of punishment that night”, said Hearn. He emphasized after learning about Garcia’s failed test result, which means he had PEDs in his body during the fight, Devin hasn’t been feeling “great about it”, adding the consequences could have been worse.
