These are exciting times for boxing! Fans are already buzzing with excitement over the potential matchup between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford as it continues to take shape. It’s hard to believe how things looked just a year ago. Ahead of Alvarez’s September 15 showdown against Edgar Berlanga, His Excellency Turki Alalshikh had remarked, “I decided to disregard the Canelo fight, as I don’t want it anymore.” These comments came after Alvarez set a hundred and fifty million-dollar price condition for fighting Crawford.

Now, things seem to have progressed to the point where both Alvarez and HE Alalshikh, who recently met in London, are taking their association to the next level. Well-known boxing insider Rick Glaser shared an update that both startled and thrilled fans. It didn’t take long for fans to jump into the conversation, sharing their opinions. What caught many by surprise was PBC’s role, or rather absence, in the development. A few months ago, Glaser had tweeted about the rumored $900 million debt that Al Haymon’s promotions had incurred.

Canelo is in the process of signing a 3-fight deal with @Turki_alalshikh, which will include a mega fight with @TerenceCrawford in September,” said Rick Glaser. According to the New York State Boxing Hall of Fame (NYSBHOF) inductee, the potential Crawford-Canelo fight is expected to be the most significant and highly anticipated matchup of 2025.

Highlighting Crawford’s confidence in his ability to compete at a higher weight class, Glaser pointed out that the Nebraskan southpaw had reportedly ‘agreed to a no rehydration clause,’ potentially giving him a better chance against a larger opponent like Canelo Alvarez.

Early last year, reports emerged that Alvarez and PBC had mutually agreed to part ways. The $100 million three-fight deal reportedly ended due to disagreements over a potential Cinco de Mayo fight against Jermall Charlo. Alvarez had defeated Charlo’s brother, Jermell, a few months ago, on September 30, 2023.

Have an interesting take?

Perhaps that’s why there was curiosity about whose auspices the reported new three-fight deal would fall under. Let’s take a look at some of the comments.

The enigma surrounding PBC lingers

This fan got straight to the point. “Is PBC doing Canelo’s next fight? or is that also gonna be with Turki,” they asked. They received a reply. Although he admitted not knowing the precise details, Rick Glaser speculated that it would likely be the Riyadh Season team.

Another fan was curious about the platform where Canelo’s fights will be aired. They asked, “So is Canelo done with the PBC? Can’t imagine Turki will allow this fight on Amazon Prime.” Luckily for them, they got a response from the boxing insider. He suggested that, given HE Alalshikh’s strong interest in DAZN, the fight will most likely be broadcast on DAZN.

Not sure whether they sound elated or in despair, the following fan commented, “PBC in the bushes.” With Glaser’s report and the current developments, it’s clear that Alvarez, who became a free agent last year, is gradually drifting toward the biggest platform in today’s boxing.

So what if Canelo Alvarez ends up fighting Terence Crawford towards the end of the year? Many fans are curious about what other fights Alvarez has lined up. One fan asked Glaser, “Is Canelo going to fight William Scull in May?” The boxing insider admitted he didn’t have any knowledge about the matter. But the fact remains that Scull’s name had surfaced earlier as one of the potential opponents Team Canelo was considering.

It seems there are still a few who aren’t enthusiastic about the Canelo-Crawford matchup. This user said, “Benavidez vs. Canelo is a bigger, more competitive fight.” While that’s a speculative claim, it’s certainly a fight that excites many. A clash between two equals is an undeniably thrilling prospect. But Crawford is arguably the bigger name if Alvarez is seeking the perfect legacy-and-payday combination.

Towards the end of last year, Rick Glaser shared an intriguing update about how PBC’s agreement with Amazon Prime might face some challenges in 2025.
