Once again, boxing insider Rick Glaser is back with a set of updates on PBC, and critical they are of course. According to him, things are still bad for Al Haymon. Glaser has already highlighted the problem that the veteran promoter is having with his deal with Amazon Prime Video and it looks like the financial issues are now also reflecting on the upcoming Gervonta Davis vs. Lamont Roach fight.

A few days ago, the PBC finally set an official date for Tank’s return after months of uncertainty. The WBA lightweight champion will headline the Barclays Center in Brooklyn on March 1 in his second title defense. However, according to Glaser, PBC’s financial problems will mar the event as the official press conference put a huge question mark on it already.

Gervonta Davis done with the whole thing

Glaser took to his ‘X’ and mentioned a peculiar thing he noticed during the Tank-Roach official press conference. He wrote, “Very interesting development at Tuesday’s #TankDavis-#LamontRoach Press Conference besides the fact it started 4.5 hours late, #LeonardEllerbe was not in attendance, nor was any Trainer for Tank.”

Davis appeared alone, prompting questions about potential issues within his camp or whether financial constraints had led PBC to scale down the event. “So the huge question mark Is there trouble in the Tank Davis Camp, or was it just a very low budget Press Conference put on by #PBC!!! I’m really not sure!!!” inquired Glaser.

Adding to the uncertainty, Davis revealed during the media scrum that he plans to retire by the end of 2025, citing disillusionment with the sport. “After next year, I’m out of it. S***’s trash. This s*** is trash, garbage. Fed up. I’m fed up with the whole s***,” stated Davis while expressing frustration with the state of affairs in the sport.

This revelation fuels Glaser’s speculation of internal issues within Davis’s camp. If Davis’s retirement plans materialize, it could deal a significant blow to PBC. As one of its biggest stars, his departure would leave the promotion with limited options to overcome its mounting challenges. Rick Glaser, in his previous post, had alleged that Al Haymon, PBC’s founder, had retreated from the spotlight amidst the organization’s financial crisis.

Al Haymon: Hiding in plain sight

Glaser wrote, “I’ve gotten a bunch of calls today saying that #AlHaymon has disappeared again. Al Haymon is hiding in plain sight…. Haymon’s not sick, #PBC is in financial ruin.” Last month, several reports came out stating that the PBC honcho is not keeping well. Glaser himself confirmed the report and offered his prayers to Haymon, hoping for a quick recovery.

However, the boxing insider completely switched the narrative and stated that the promoter was just running away. According to Glaser, “Haymon is embarrassed that his orginal dream of having a monopoly on #Boxing is now ending in complete financial ruin.”

He further added that even though PBC will survive, the company won’t be a mega player in the industry as Haymon had dreamed of. “Disappeared no, the real answer is vanquished. PBC may barely stay “in business” but a real player they will not be,” stated Glaser.

While these statements by Glaser seem to be out of spite and quite premature, if Gervonta Davis departs from the PBC, it can soon become a reality. PBC does not have many bankable stars and with the reported $900 million debt on their heads, things are getting harder.
