Is Skye Nicolson's win over Chapman enough to challenge Amanda Serrano, or is she still overrated?

Amanda Serrano kept a close eye on what happened between Skye Nicolson and Raven Chapman. But she was in for a surprise, as the champion defended her crown against the dangerous challenger and set herself on a collision course with her. The reign is the same and it spells only one thing—danger for Serrano.

Notably, Nicolson secured the win, as the fight went the distance, and she bagged the unanimous decision win in the first women’s world title fight in Saudi Arabia as part of the Riyadh Season. She started slow but when she found her footing, she just imposed her will on Chapman. The same was reflected in the judges’ scorecards, as they read in the Australian fighter’s favor.

After starting slow, Nicolson employed her jab and slowly increased her input. Her quick footwork made the difference, as he pushed in her jabs to negate Chapman’s aggression and forward pressure. The champion picked her shots smartly and her ring generalship also aided in asserting her dominance.

Waiting and leading with single shots and jabs worked wonders for Nicolson, as she didn’t allow Chapman to get inside and unload her heavy punches. It all culminated in a spectacular win for her, and she put Serrano on notice with it. The fans turned to the comment section and reacted to Nicolson’s win.

Fans split over Nicolson’s technical masterclass

A fan drew parallels between Shakur Stevenson and Nicolson. They wrote, “People call Shakira Stevenson boring but says flawless performance by Skye Nicolson… 🤔🤔.” Notably, Stevenson is bashed for technical performances, which usually lack high-paced action and Nicolson had a similar fight.

Interestingly, Jake Donovan referenced how Nicolson’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, had finally won a fight against Frank Warren. He commented, “Terrific performance by Skye Nicolson, who should take a landslide decision over Raven Chapman. Eddie Hearn can finally look Frank Warren in the eye again! #NicolsonChapman #BeterbievBivol.” Hearn had dropped the Matchroom vs. Queensberry 5v5 with a clean sweep and most recently saw Anthony Joshua lose to Daniel Dubois as well. But Nicolson’s win will surely ease some pain now.
