Is David Benavidez's Abu Dhabi trip a strategic move to get Canelo's attention?

David Benavidez believes in the art of balancing his professional and personal spheres. When he is not chopping off heads inside the ring, he ensures he spends time with his loving wife, Karina Silva, and his two kids. You can have a look at his social media handle, where the American boxer is either grueling hard in training or out on a vacation with his family. However, this time, the Benavidez family had a surprise destination in Abu Dhabi, which turned the heads of the fans, drawing hilarious reactions from them.

After a grueling encounter with Oleksandr Gvozdyk last month, Benavidez, 27, has earned his time off, as he awaits the WBC decision on their enforcement of his mandatory status at super middleweight against Canelo Alvarez or at light heavyweight against the eventual winner of Dmitry Bivol vs. Artur Beterbiev. Before the ‘Mexican Monster’ plunged into a training camp, he turned to his social media, dropping pictures from his trip, especially when visiting the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi.

The fans could spot Benavidez, at 29-0, in the local attire, ‘Thawb’, and his wife, Karina, also followed suit. In addition, the caption read, “Grand mosque Abu Dhabi.” The fans soon took to the comment section and had some comical responses for the boxer.

David Benavidez is on a hunt for Canelo Alvarez in Abu Dhabi!

One fan pointed out the long wait Benavidez has been enduring to have his dream fight against Alvarez. They believed praying could be one way to materialize the fight. They wrote, “Homie got so desperate he went to pray for that canelo fight lol.”

A user also maintained a similar comical tone and asked whether the Phoenix native was searching for Alvarez in Abu Dhabi’s Grand Mosque too. Despite winning an interim strap at 175, Benavidez remains adamant about chasing a fight with the undisputed super middleweight champion. They declared, “Out there looking for Canelo too??”

Interestingly, someone referenced Alvarez’s steep demand of $200 million as a fight purse to fight Benavidez, and in their opinion, HE Turki Alalshikh was the only person who could splash this much cash on the fight. They announced, “Bros next stop is saudi to get that canelo grant fund from turki lmao.”

A comment amusingly called Benavidez a ‘Sheikh,’ based on his attire, and poked fun at him. The comment read, “Sheikh Benavidez.”

Another fan candidly admitted that they didn’t expect such snaps on their Instagram feed, and it took them a while to realize that the pictures belonged to Benavidez. They noted, “wtf lmao this caught me off guard, I thought I was randomly following a crown prince or sum.”

Lastly, a couple of followers also confused Benavidez with UFC champion Alex Pereira for their uncanny resemblance. They contended, “My boy looking like the beast @alexpoatanpereira.”

Notably, Benavidez and his camp have already communicated their desire to enforce the WBC mandatory status against Alvarez. Speaking to 210BoxingTV, Jose Benavidez Sr. said, “The letter has been sent… We’re there to fight in September, if Canelo wants to fight in September. David will be ready to fight September.” However, in the likely scenario of the 33-year-old champion or the WBC not accepting their demand, they would continue to chart their path at 175.
